Oil filter prices rising fast ....
08/16/12 at 10:38:02

Oil filters for the Savage used to cost aroundabouts $3 for quite a few years now.

I noticed I was down to my last box, so I went out looking.
First thing I noticed is that the S40 isn't on a lot of sites "parts finder system" any more, but the DR650 still is.
Next, I noticed the price for the oil filter had doubled or tripled depending on the site.

Now this was interesting to me, as  Shocked WTF Shocked pricing shock has become quite common to me in my old age.

I took the two most common filters, EMGO 10-85900 and the Hiflofiltro H137 and went to the Shopzillas of the world.   Damme, but the prices were high and they varied all over the place.

Went to Ebay, same story -- looks like prices are rising fast.

==========

What we needed to do is identify somebody who has old dusty $3.00 stock on hand and hasn't bothered to update his pricing lately.

Since they will be pulling from existing stock, don't expect the price to stay that way for long.   But once you get shipping confirmation, post where you got yours and the low price you achieved.

Think of it as a little friendly cheap old fart contest.

Cheesy    .... wait for confirmation of shipping as quite a few of these places will have empty bins when they go to pull your order.

I'll take a ride into my local independent shop tomorrow and see if they are still selling them for $4 or less.  If so I'll also find out how many he has in stock and we may do a group buy on what he has left. Smiley

individual item shipping sucks, at $4.99   but I tried 10, 12, 24 qty's the shipping is $6.99  so it's not bad at bulk sales.  put in 60 qty and shipping was free.

Thanks for the heads-up on the price increases and also for the source; I have only 1 or 2 left in the garage right now.  I've just ordered some and I'll let you know when I get shipping confirmation and delivery.

Guess I'm one of the minority here,   I replace my filter at each oil change.  Force of habit plus peace of mind.

Bill, you can't say too much, according to you your oil has never gotten dirty and it is still all pretty red and good as new looking.

Have you been changing your filter and not changing the oil?

I go 2 years on a filter before I even look at it, then most times it is good to go for a redo after checking out the small amount of non-ferrous residues that it captured.

I mean, really, how many years do I plan to keep riding past 70, anyway?

Ya know the fact that the oil is staying the same exact color as it was when put in with as long as he's had it in there would worry me.  Additive package in the oils is there for a reason,  to encase the crap in the oil, whatever it may be to carry it off to the filter, or if it's to fine for the filter keep it encapsulated so that it does less harm.  Just because of this the oil changes color.  The normal carbon that by-passes the rings and other combustion gases alone would dis-color the oil, unless the oil isn't doing it's job.

Klotz gives you improved ring seal for higher combustion chamber pressure and power,So there isn't much carbon blow by if any.
