I own a 1997 Suzuki LS 650 Savage with 5,400miles on the bike.
I also have less than 10 posts being a newbie. Would you suggest an inspection and measurement of the plunger first, or just replacement?
Thank you.

Believe it or not... this is not a maintenance free bike.
You do have to open it up once in a while to check things out.

Regardless of the miles, if this is a new2u bike, you should open it up and find out what's in there (yes, I've sold lot's of these) and how far the fuse is sticking out.  If you're careful, you can get the cover off w/out tearing it.  But have a new one available just in case.

Of course putting one of these in there asap, will lessen the risk of it going kerboom from the getgo.

Measure how far the plunger sticks out in mm's, subtract 19, times a 1000 and that's about how many miles you've got till you look at it next.  That's usually a pretty safe number, but you should be wary at all times for unusually knocking, grinding, etc.  but you do that anyway... right?
