I finally got mine swapped by the local shop.  My 2007 has 15K on it and the mechanic asked why I was putting in the new tensioner.  The one he pulled out looks almost new and it wasn't over extended.

The whole change over including tensioner, gasket , labor and the oil change cost me over $200.  The core charge really wasn't high enough to be any kind of high priority. Now that said... I'll be sending mine back to get some money back Smiley

I just got my bike put back together today, been out of state for a couple of weeks. It was easy to do and works great. My 09 only has 8000 miles on it but I'm on the second hole, the pin was nearly at the stop on the first one. When I took it apart the plunger was out 16.5mm I'm sure glad I opened it when I did was going to wait till 1200, that may have been to late . Anyway Verslagen1 did a great job, the price was too cheap. I own a service shop and can't imagine how you do that much work so well for 60 bucks but I'm sure glad you do.

I received my Verslay tensioner yesterday. This thing is so good looking, that I hate to put it inside the engine. A true work of love.
Now, off to the garage...

Thanks to all who have helped me with this issue--pulled the crankcase cover today--the original tensioner was extended to right at 20mm--right at its limit.

Verslagen, the old part does not seem to be "wallowed out."  Let me know your preference when I get near the top of the waiting list--I can pull the original to be reworked if that is your preference--thanks.

OK, if the plunger in my old tensioner was extended 20mm, whcih plunger hole do I want to use in the rebuilt part?  The hole on the far end of the plunger, or the hole closest to the receptacle that the plunger slides into?

far end

I advise to keep it in the 1st hole till it's near the end of travel.
Then transfer to the 2nd hole.  This is to minimize the spring force.

Thanks V1--I thought from reading other posts that this was the case--just wanted to make sure before I got everything buttoned back up.

Thanks for being such a great resource. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

when I took off the circlip it went flying across the garage. I couldn't find it so I ordered 2 just in case one went flying when I put it back together. Waiting until it gets a little warmer to finish the job.
