Would you suggest an inspection and measurement of the plunger first, or just replacement?

Believe it or not... this is not a maintenance free bike.
You do have to open it up once in a while to check things out.

Regardless of the miles, if this is a new2u bike, you should open it up and find out what's in there (yes, I've sold lot's of these) and how far the fuse is sticking out.  If you're careful, you can get the cover off w/out tearing it.  But have a new one available just in case.

Of course putting one of these in there asap, will lessen the risk of it going kerboom from the getgo.

Measure how far the plunger sticks out in mm's, subtract 19, times a 1000 and that's about how many miles you've got till you look at it next.  That's usually a pretty safe number, but you should be wary at all times for unusually knocking, grinding, etc.  but you do that anyway... right?

What is the turn around time on my parts?

Typically, the following Saturday.
Provided you've reserved a plunger with me and have pre-paid or paid with money order.
Worst case 4 weeks... sometimes life's a beach.

Thanks man I got mine a while back. On time and in perfect order. It is now in its new home and fits perfectly. I'd put some pics of it in here but I don't have enough posts, but I still wanted to give you a shout out. You're the real deal!

New FAQ response...

9.What's your turn around time from sending you chain tensioner to mod and return.
A: Confirm with me that I have the plungers in stock, then send it by Tuesday, it'll be here by Friday, I'll have it back in the mail on Saturday and it'll be back in your hands by Tuesday.

Quote:
Are the supplies to make these still out of stock?

What I constantly run out of stock are the modified plungers.
I do have new tensioners ready to modify.
Life and heat are getting in the way of getting these done... sorry.

I sell a lot of new ones, but rarely do I get the old ones back.
If I sell you a new one, I offer you $30 to send me the old one back.
A little ovaling is ok, grind marks or other heavy damage are not.
Good springs are worth something too.

Quote:
Second question is,  besides the safety benefits and longevity of the cam chain,  does this provide any performance upgrades in any way,  be it big or small?
No.

Well I've passed the 19,000 mile mark on my 1996. Most of those miles have been extended runs (40 miles) at 60-75 mph commuting to work or weekend runs.  Some <10 mile runs to town for coffee or errands. I'm thinking I need to quit procrastinating and call Versy quick. What do the resident pundits say?

Added Question
I'm sure the subject of riding style and miles per ride vs. cam chain tensioner wear has been covered but I can't seem to find reference to that info. Has any conclusive evidence or educated guesses been made on this?

I highly recommend it.  I put one on last week and it wasn't difficult.  My cam chain was in good condition and I have peace of mind my s40 should run well for years to come.   Wink
