Mount the motor, put you ass in the saddle and put in motion! Ha, ha. I'm sure it will have some compliance, but it's still a hardtail. The decreased approach angle of those big wheels and the long, curvy rear end will surely take the edge off of things.

Normally a hole saw on an HF tubing notcher. In the case of the pic above the geometry doesn't let me fit in the notcher so I had to scribe, grind, repeat until I got fit. Its a right angle grinder and I usually use a depressed center grinding wheel for coping. These ones were a little tricky as there is a center line to the part that needs to land on the center line of the bike and there is fit required on both ends so I just kept nibbling away until I got what I wanted. And the kicker is the upper cross probably needs to move forward to clear the chain so I get to do it again Wink

Started on the seat while I was waiting on sprockets and chain. This frame will be slung with a wet formed heavy leather riveted to the flats on the front and back of the seat frame, old style bicycle seat construction. We'll see how it goes. Last bike took me 5 tries to get a seat I liked...

Air shock for suspension to angle from roughly the center of the bottom seat tube to the vertical piece in front of it.

Let's call this a rough draft of the seat. Used duct tape to make a temporary sling. Fits my bum pretty good just no room for the leather to stretch at all or my tail bone hits the support frame. Need to re-do the seat support frame to allow for some stretch and maybe lower the back edge of the seat just a tad. I'm going let this rest for bit and go on to fitting the sprockets and chain.

I think I'll start without a tensioner and see how it runs in shake down. If I need one I can mount it to the bottom cross member.

If it sags 1-1/4" your chain is too lose anyway. A tensioner will add to its mechanical mayhem look, but detract from its simplicity. Figgin' looks great.

Those clearances between the chain and frame look a little tight - I do believe you are going to need to use guides.....and/or a tensioner. I believe that most builders don't put guides/tensioners on because they look cool - they put them on because they are necessary!

This is a bit of an extreme video - but it does show how a chain flops around. During the acceleration the top is tight and the bottom is loose - then as the bike is slowing down the bottom becomes tight and the top becomes loose.

You can see with every gear change how the tension changes. Yeah, maybe a guide such that is used on an MX bike. They are typically UHMW plastic sandwiched between a metal (aluminum) structure. I'm sure you could weld up something cool to hold some UHMW.
