Thanks for the videos and input.  I'm guessing he's running bit more HP in that video than the 650 but point taken, the slack side is more likely to slap around especially with my slender extended frame.  I had to do a UHMW guide on my last bike because I got too close to a side cover on the upper chain pass.  It will slap against it at low speed and low power, especially if you hit any bumps.  The chain still just kisses the cover from time to time but the UHMW pad suppresses the noise to the point that I can't even hear it.  Adding a UHMW cushion will be my first solution if I get chain slap on either side.

With the transmission in first gear you can apply tension on the chain and see how close the chain comes to the frame. Since this is a hard tail motorcycle, you don't need more than an inch of free play.

Actually the play can be kept quite low since there is no swingarm movement the need for standard play is minimized to eliminated.  Where it will start to show is if the chain starts to stretch unevenly as you start to run the bike then you will end up with loose spots and will need to really watch the tight ones when adjusting the chain slack.

A pic level with the bottom frame members would help us see how much room you have.
Where the frame crosses under the chain and then the curved tailpiece member crosses in front of the tire, there's a place for a tidy, spring loaded, custom made gizmo. Adjustable spring tension isn't hard, tedious, yeah..
I have used bits of cutting board with success.
Not for a tensioner,
But you can build and test until you're satisfied with the design cheap.

Here's the shot from down low.  Followed by the upper engine mount.  It's just fitted for now, will tack it later.  It's the only straight frame piece other than the neck, if it was going to show I would have had to curve it  Wink

I'm so hooked on this build thread.  It's hard when waiting more than a day for updates!
Just great work, man.

Threaded mounting points for battery/electrics tacked in place.  Still flip flopping on whether to try to disguise battery/electrics in a fake oil tank or just leave them out in the open.  Currently leaning towards the fake oil tank.  These mounts should work either way.

My vote (not that I have one) would be to hide the electronics in a fake oil tank. To support the illusion, you can run your wires in SS braided oil lines.

I think the oil tank will be the cleanest look and protect the electrics from dirt and water.  That's the direction for now.

But for now back to the seat.  First attempt put the seat sling right down on the seat frame, any stretch in the sling and I'd be sitting on a piece of tubing.  I also needed to incorporate a clevis to attach the air shock for the seat suspension.  Red line in the pic is the profile of the seat sling.

Seat tacked in place with air shock.  A little less travel than I planned for but still way more than coil springs, plus the ability to tune the spring rate and damping.  Leather sling or saddle comes next.

Video link to the action.  Note that pressure in the air shock is very low just to demonstrate the range of motion.  75 psi increases the spring to about where I expect to run and makes it so my weight alone just starts to compress the spring.  They say sag should be about 1/4 of the  travel.  This is about 2 3/4 inch travel at the back edge of the seat.
