Self protection is a natural right. Been that way since the beginning of time. People aren't equal in attitude and physical ability. And,if you're really curious about the American way, take note of the Constitution, the Law of the Land, written by men who had been under tyranny and decided to create a unique nation, one which makes the People the Sovereign. Washington turned down an offer to be made King. The Second amendment is not about hunting or sports or even defense from a thug, since all of that is just common sense. The Declaration of Independence, all the early stuff, good to understand. Biblical principles and the Magna Carta and the experiences of some really smart guys gave us the guaranteed Liberties we, unlike any other nation I know of. The Federalist papers, anti federalist papers, dudes, they didn't go in Of One Mind and create this. I'm not gonna say that they nailed it, but they sure got close. The problems we have are largely because of failing to follow it and the other, general advice given us. The Trade with others, avoid entanglements stuff seems to have been ignored. The unwillingness to admit that where many people, not just the bad guys, have weapons, crime is lower, is just shocking. Do we not remember the events in our own lives? Who doesn't remember car jacking? Wasn't a big deal in Texas , but Louisiana was a lot different. Finally, the governor told the people, Okay, someone jerk the door open, shoot him. Car jacking Died, after a few thugs got gutshot.
