The mount on the 2 tabs seems solid.   but I'm going to shim and weld something that fits better under the crossbar for the seat.  I just don't trust the 2 little bolts.

Maybe I'll weld in a little crosspiece just under it.  thats the easiest

Shock Information:  research:

I'm in touch with B&J racing in Tennesee.  The custom make custom valved shock by Falcon and some other companies.   Some are adjustable, some are not.  BUT...they all are pricey!  I have a fixed valved, nitrogen emulsion shock...."DeCarbon" style too.

I'm sending the Ryca geometry including the stroke (2") and length (13) requirements to him.   This will put the Falcon rear shock De Carbon style cost at ROUGHLY $475 range.

It will only be adjustable for preload by moving a springclip to preload the coil.   There are other falcons with clickers for rebound and compression......but much more $$$.

THe numbers I gave him areL   2" travel, 13" length, 320 lb bike, 50/50 weight dist., 180 lb rider.

Anyone know the stock 10" shock savage spring rate? ?????

Thanks

thanks Gary. I thought it was 13.0.

Questions:

1)  pulling down the beast;  I noticed I need the little metal bracket that holds the cable for the decomp. lever along with the 2 mounting screws.  Mine had the foot rod decomp, so it was removed.    Anyone have a spare with the 2 mounting screws????? pm me.

2)  there are 4 wires in a sleeve that control the 2  gauges.  red, green, blue and black.   red and black are the lights, blue and green are the tach.    At the coil end:   green ties into the orange coil lead.  black is on a ground clamp.  red and blue are not connected to anything!    I assume I can attach the red to any lighting "hot".   what does the blue go to?

(again, this is the ryca dual gauge wiring)

thanks!

The red and blue get tied together and go to 12vdc.

so you gotta cut the fram tubes for cafe / standard kits? rats, I was thinking about a CS2

Frame cutting is a piece of cake. Measure twice and cut once. It can be done with anything from a cut-off wheel (on a die grinder), saws-all or a hack saw.

Lawl you never seen me use a cut off wheel, it ain't pretty  Embarrassed

What ever the frame is made out of.....and especially the tubes for the stock foot peg mounts - it is incredibly hard on Sawzall blades.

I had thought that I could be more accurate in making straight cuts with the Sawzall, and I didn't want to throw sparks and grit all over my garage when I cut my frame - so I used a Sawzall with metal cutting blades.  Even with high quality brand name bi-metal blades - it was hard to make a blade last for more than a single cut.  I did try cutting slowly so I didn't overheat the blades - but they became dull very quickly.

Do you have a Harbor Freight near by?
One of these from Harbor Freight works well for cutting those frame tubes, tabs or other projects...
http://www.harborfreight.com/portable-variable-speed-bandsaw-47840.html

And with a 20% coupon is only ~$66
http://www.harborfreight.com/20off-coupon912-aff-17564.html?utm_source=cj&utm...

I know, it's Harbor Freight, but for anything less than full production or constant use most of their stuff stands up pretty well for the home shop.

I swear by my IR 231C. I've yet to find a nut/bolt that it can't break free. It has never let me down. They can be had for ~$100

update 4-1:

upper tree (was a donor lower tree) ready to go.
made a fork tool (5/8" bolt and tube!  thanks for the tip fellas)
forks disassembled, ready for Emulator / spring work

update 4-2:  drilled the emulator, spring bases; swapped out tension springs to "blue" (set to 2.5 turns). drilled the damping rods - all 6 holes at 9/32!  (couldn't find my 5/16!!!) - -good enough!   PITA to deburr and clean the inside of the damping tubes...but its done.

THINKING headlights:  fork ears or single point mount.  need to see  some RYCAs with both!

some measurements:  forks C to C L  ~7.5", fork tubes 38mm  also:  rechecked my rear shocks 13" eye to eye.  Gary;  you came up with 13.5"  ???  wonder why the diff? Shocked

Because that's how RYCA markets them. I'd trust your measurement.

Ride the bike with the fork changes. I think you might be surprised how well the RYCA shocks work when they don't have to do all of the work. I don't love them, but at this point I don't hate them either.

BBK in!  ready to install!  Looks really slick!

Started stripping the black rattle can off the wheels today with a weak stripper solution.  I don't want to move the clear on the hubs.  Slow, but working well.

Having some trouble removing the rear wheel bearings.  Any hints?

Fork mod DONE!  need to get some fork oil (don't want to use ATF unless I have to)

Frame cleanup from green overspray continues.  Gotta figure out what to do for paint.  Kinda liking matte black. or red and black.  we'll see.
Spraymax makes a gloss clear and an mattel clear.  so I may do the duplicolor / spraymax trick.

frame stripped down of the RYCA bits.  Time to fix things!
Heres a few picts as it sits now.   Frame cleaning and touchup underway.

Trees ready...some polishing needed.  Now to figure out the gauges!

Notice the gap under the seat braces.  pretty inaccurate cut if I must say so!

Belt drive cleaned up...BBK by Shawn in waiting!
