Lupo, unfortunately the steam & cream wasn't opened for very long..I got one visit during which a charming young thing walked up and down my back..errrr almost relaxing.  Unfortunately, most of the charming young things were collecting info for the Cong. What us intel guys won't go through for the mission. Shocked

I think we shared a concertina wire fence with you guys..Bob Frost said it made good neighbors but one of your guys missed me by a hair one dark and tedious night.  He apparantly went bezerk and started shooting at everyone.  A sad evening.  As I low crawled back to the bunker line I passed by several claymore mines that had been installed the week before.
They were set up facing the bunkers,which not surprisingly, is what you migh expect when you use POW's to set them up.  For real,  Grin Grin Grin

Billl67 might not approve of our recent wars, but this thread was a resonable effort to thank the soliers, sailors, marines and airmen/women who have served our country.  Like the whack jobs that protest at funerals, some are just so blinded by their cause or hate that they fail to respect even the simplist of decorum.  There is a time and place, Bill67 got it wrong this time.(IMHO) of course.

I consider myself open-minded ... maybe even "Liberal" by American standards (I am Canadian after all) ... but Bill even your sentiments offend my sensibilities ... our Veterans living and deceased deserve nothing more than TOTAL respect for laying down their lives for OUR freedom ... and yes that also means your freedom to disrespect their efforts ... think about that ...

All you guys are doing is making Bills day.

There is no reason to give your life for another.  There are reasons to die while trying to kill others.  There are reasons to die when trying to save the lives of others, but it is not something you plan to do.  No one intends to be a hero, no one wants to be a hero.  Heros are victims of accidents.

Us here, that served, were none of those heros.  Obviously.  But we did served, where we may had been placed into a situation where we may had accidently died while helping others.  November 11 is the day others thank those who were *willing* to help others.  For those who thank us,  you're welcome, but we did not do it for just those.  We served everyone.  Even those pitiful worms sneer at those who served.

In homage to Mick,
and a wink to Bill - who may be griping and complaining, but has the eye to tell the Patriotism of the Folk from the Greed of the Rulers.

Take up the White Man's burden -
send forth the best ye breed -
go bind your sons to exile
to serve your captive's need;
to wait in heavy harness
on fluttered flok and wild -
your new-caught, sullen peoples,
half devil and half child.

Take up the White Man's burden -
in patience to abide,
to veil the threat of terror
and check the show of pride;
by open speech and simple,
an hundred times made plain,
to seek another's profit,
and work another's gain.

Take up the White Man's burden -
the savage wars of peace -
fill full the mouth of Famine
and bid the sickness cease;
and when your goal is nearest
the end for others sought,
watch Sloth and heathen Folly
bring all your hope to nought.

Take up the White Man' burden -
no tawdry rule of kings,
but toil of serf and sweeper -
the tale of common things,
the ports ye shall not enter,
the roads ye shall not tread,
go make them with your living,
and mark them with your dead!

Rudyard Kipling

Anybody go ask a mother, to which war she'd send her sons to fight.
Any mother will tell you she'd rather not see a war in the first place.

Amen.

& having seen the lies & tricks of the powerful to get the support of the people & get them to willingly send their sons off to "Fighht for our FREEDoms".. when weve not suffered an attack ON those freedoms, except from washington, dc, I live stunned that anyone would support a war.
