So check this awesomeness out!! My boy Nick from Forever Two Wheels had this great idea for an exhaust baffle.  You see, up here in Maine we have some pretty ridiculous inspection laws.  We are breaking everyone of them on this build, but excessively loud exhaust will get you a ticket in a heartbeat.  Hopefully this will help.

So here we have an exhaust tube measured and marked up:[/

slots cut:

alternating sections pushed in to create pattern see here

And now we have one fully functional exhaust baffle.:

It'll be interesting to see how that sounds.  It'll create some turbulence in the flow but I am not sure how much it will quiet down the exhaust. It looks good, though.

That is an interesting way to make your own baffle.

If that baffle is going into the megaphone housing, I suggest that about half way down the baffle section you block it off completely in the center so that nothing can flow straight through.  That way the exhaust (and sound) must exit the baffle and go into the megaphone housing, then the exhaust (and sound) will have to go back into the baffle to exit the muffler.

It still is going to be pretty loud.........I betcha! Shocked

I am wondering if maybe those segments should have been pushed in varying amounts, to slow exhaust gases on the outside edge , too,,

Very cool build so far Dfinn, thanks for sharing!

Along the lines of what Steve and Dave were hinting at, how about just turning two of the center alternating sections, that might do the trick   Wink

Good advice y'all.  Hey Gerry, the backbone measures 13" long and 2 1/2" wide

Did some Polishing today and a couple other things.

Here is the side cover with the oil filter cover polished up real nice. Wow, what a difference!

Check out the megaphone!

figuring out seat placement:

Now here's an idea, cover up those gaps on the rear frame rails with bronze weld.  than polish it up and cover it up just before powdercoat. What will be left is a bronze weld looking so so cool.

That is my dream or fantasy bike frame, gas welded bronze intersections and mill finish steel tube, with maybe a satin clear coat over all.
I have a 1972 Triumph Bonneville that is my next project.  I would love to find a Rickman or Seeley frame (original or clone/copy) for a unit twin motor welded like that and put modern forks, alloy rims and brakes on it.
Kind of my own new Norton.
Project is looking good Dfinn,
Gerry

Correction on the backbone measurement.  I stated earlier that the backbone measured 2.5 wide.  That's wrong it measures 1.5 wide.  So it's 13"L by 1.5" W.  shadow rider, that's for you!

Things are starting to shape up around here!  We got some exhaust work done today.  First off we had a new collar machined to fit the 2" exhaust.
It couldn't be better! Perfect fit.

So than we tack welded the first bend and this is what that looks like.

We mocked up the exhaust and this is basically how it look.

Than Nick came up with a new idea for the seat.  Calling on café racer heritage this is what he was thinking.....I agree it looks great!!

Trying out this sporty tank. Here it is just thrown up there to check out how it will look.  I think we are going to cut it down 1 inch and narrow it by 1 inch.  We'll see... but now it's starting to look like something.

Oh and did I mention the seat?!?  Calling on café racer heritage/street tracker inspired...

Your seat looks great.....but is probably more like a Street Tracker look than a Cafe' look.  Street Trackers have the back of the seat turning up like yours.....Cafe' racers have the dome on the back.....although none of this has to follow any hard fast rules.

Street Tracker

Cafe' Racer

I am interested to see the stainless welding......I am really poor at welding stainless with a Mig.  Tig is much better for stainless.  It is hard to use a welder just once or twice a year, and be any good at it.

LOL! no rules indeed.  Call it whatever, I will just call it awesome.   I'll post some pics of my buddy Nick's welding when he does it up on this exhaust.  He"s good at it so it should look proper.  Keep an eye out!
