Looks a little uncomfortable at the moment with no shocks.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

How she sits right now! She has a long road ahead of her...

How she sat when I bought her (in front of the boyfriends 48" fleetmaster)

I have been trying to get one of the European style grab rails for my S40 to no avail. So I decided to make one out of cold rolled steel and eventually will have it chrome plated or powder coated.

I used the fender supports from a 1999 Savage and took the dimensions from the sissy bar, which was a mistake. As the S40 rear fender is approximately 1/4" wider than the Savage rear fender.

I managed to spread the grab bar enough to install it in position and there are pictures here.

MM,

Thanks!

If I ever make another one I am going to use aluminum though.

Spreading that cold 1/4" to slip it on the bike is a lot more work than expected...

For future reference anyone that wants to do something similar, start by using 8 3/8" outside edge to outside edge for a measurement.

I've seen many great pictures in this section of the forum. I've admired the bobbers/ cafe racers and other individualisations of the S40, and would dearly like to have one. But my S40 is my only transport; I ride it all year round (I admit to having heated grips for winter). It is used for touring, scratching, commuting and grocery shopping. It even has to carry the banjo. So it remains stock. But I love it that way (I do have a Boulevard screen and Ventura rack, plus a clock).

I've had many bikes, but now I'm 73 this one should see me out. The weight is manageable, the power is adequate, and I enjoy riding it such that I'm always choosing the long way home. Now to see if I can work out how to attach a photo!

Regards to all S40 fans, Jasbee, Canberra, Australia
