Lanz,

I don't think that I am clever enough to make the modifications.

Bummer dude. You could always buy a welding machine and go hunting for some scrap steel to practice on...

Lanz,

If I had the talent to weld I would hop right on that job, but I don't have a clue how to go about welding.

You get the box that makes the angry pixies come out of the wall and use them to melt the metal  Grin

Have you ever soldered anything before? The process is similar.

Lanz,

I have sweated a a lot of copper plumbing fittings together, and I have silver soldered parts on guns that I have built.

Where would a guy that wanted to weld start?

Go to your local tech school and check out their "intro to welding" class.

They should cover all the basic types of welding, then allow you to focus on something in particular for the remainder of the class. At least, that's how they do it here.

Kenny, I just saw your conversation about learning to weld. That's next on my list  Cool

There are a few small mods I want to do,  and well ... they involve welding. I'm looking into some training now  Smiley

New member and new Savage owner from Central Florida.

Yesterday I bought a '04 LS650 Savage. I was attracted to the idea of how simple they are, 1 cylinder, 1 carb, 1 exh and lightweight for a 650. These features somehow pushed me into possibly getting one. I thought on it for a year and started searching 2-3 months ago.
After looking a 2 bikes, both were '06 models, one 100 miles away, one 120, priced at $2000 & $2100, the one I ended up with was 20 miles away, clean, runs great and price was $1400, I couldn't walk away without it. I don't fit the best on it, I'm 6'1", 320lb, size 14, but it's comfortable enough for the 10-50 miles trips I plan to take.

I've been lurking here on SuzukiSavage.com for the last year, almost everyday the last 3 months. Thanks to all the tips and advice in the tech stickies, I will be making the usual mods, Raptor, Dyna, re-jet and may maybe the 27T front pulley.

The first MC event I will take it to will be the Leesburg Bike Fest, April 28-30. It's only a 15 mile ride from my GF's house and only 1 mile from a small hobby shop I have where I store and work on a few old Mopars. If you're there and see an old fat guy on a silver Savage, that might be me, FL Savage.

I bought this heap for 3k to re-learn how to ride since I haven't been on a bike since high school and its small enough for my girlfriend to handle if she wants to learn.  its got 7k miles on it so hopefully the cam chain tensioner holds up long enough for me to regain some riding skills.

The rear fender and seat were torn up so I took them off and the plate mount was able to hold a cheap tail light to make it legal enough to ride over to an open area where nobody cares if you are dumping a motorcycle on its side.

Hope this goes where intended. Hi my name is Marc. Live in Oregon and have had several bikes in my life. This is the first bike of this style and was purchased to carry on the back of our motor home so when we take our boat with us we have a way to get around and see the sights.  I'm 67 now soon to be 68 and looking forward to riding with my other biker friend's on nice weekends.  Our bike is a 1996 and is in need of some repairs. I have some mechanical abilities and have appreciated the information posted on this site. Will be taking tech tips to heart. Thanks for this site. Be checking in for tips. Thanks again.
