There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

I acquired my S40 10 days ago. I have ridden 2 wheelers since 1963, for about 30 years of that  it was exclusively 2 wheelers except at work, everything from Puch MoPed to Gold Wing. My criterion was I had the cash and it would get me down the road. I had mostly rats. In the last couple of years I haven't traveled on the pavement any more so I have stuck with 250 scooters for commuting but passed this S40 with a for sale sign on it at a hock shop. I remembered my three Victors and, without thinking, I turned in and asked. The guy said $800 and I bought it. It is in pretty good shape and has 17k miles.   I am riding it to work 17 miles and it is nice. Except. I have to swap off those motocross style bars for some pullbacks and put a windshield on it. I already have the bars off an old parts bike. It backfires on turn-off so I have to do the pilot screw mod. I am so glad I found this forum.

I lived in SPB back in the 70s and visited down there up through 97 when my mom died. I would not ride a two wheeler in SPB again on a bet. In the 70s the ancients would kill you turning in front of you or just turning into you from the other lane. In the 90s I didn't see such from the old folks   but the young suits in high$ cars were driving like they had to make up for the old folks being off the street..

Mike,

Thanks.

but it was leaning towards the Vietnamese when I was there.

I get my Vietnamese in Việt Nam. I go whenever I have enough saved for the air fare and a few $ to spend. Riding scoots there is a whole different world.

"Hi Mike, yeah I've come to understand that the S40 is quicker off the mark and a lot more nimble than the V Star. I'm so glad I went with the S40."

I used to travel long distance a lot and my 920 Virago was the finest. The S40 I just acquired reminds me a lot of that. Both are nimble and lots of low end power, good for jumping into near bumper to bumper traffic on the Interstate or getting out of the way suddenly of a young buck in his big new PU and attitude.

Mike,

"I don't miss Pennsylvania winters, but today it is in the teens here in North Texas."

I had a Victor when I was stationed at GAFB in San Angelo in '67. and discovered what "freezing Rain" was. I had always thought of it as something like sleet. No. It's freezing for a week, warms up and rains, then instantly goes down to 25. Wake up to clear ice everywhere. It is difficult to drive but I did- for a few minutes then gave it up as a bad deal. In Panama City where I am now, we don't have that problem. Last time there was ice on the road was in the "Blizzard of '89." It snowed for 3 days at Christmas then didn't go below 50 the rest of the winter.

Hey everyone! I'm from NZ and riding a Canadian badged 2014 LS650. I am the second owner, was sold NZ new. 22000km on the clock. I'm an engineer so I try to do all my own maintenance.

I ride my bike to work and back when I don't need the car and also on cross-country trips (which aren't that long in NZ).

My bike is bare stock aside from some mods I made to put some decent sized saddle bags on. I fabricated and machined all of the parts my self using the tools at my workplace.

Look forward to getting to know some people!  Smiley

Hello! I'm Peyton from good ol' Utah. I got my 2001 savage 650 from my wife's brother back when we were dating last summer. I followed this site religiously till I had two accidents in the same week putting my bike out of commission. Now that I've decided to invest in protective riding gear, I'm going to get my bike in working order! Loved it all summer and can't wait to hop back on! (but my wife can haha!)
I'm 22 attending school in southern Utah and hope to travel the country as much as possible in the next couple of years. Wonderful site! Thanks!

Here they are! Finally got around to resizing them for the forum (and promptly realised there were better methods for sharing them haha) EDIT: Oops these are huge.... Might help to right click and open in new tab.

Everything was made from 304 Stainless. Works pretty well so far! The only thing I didn't make was the luggage rack. PO put that on. Pretty sure it's modified and originally of a GN125! Pretty useful for strapping things to though. I can tie my pack to the saddle bag bars and the rack and it makes a nice back rest for long distance trips.
