Vendor Reviews
01/21/06 at 10:51:40

Okay folks,

Let's use this thread for reviews of vendors (parts, service, accessories, gear, whatever).  Please try to post so it's fairly easy for anyone to browse this topic and locate previous reviews on a vendor they are considering.  We already have a "best sources" thread, so let's use that one for that sort of info.  If you agree or disagree about a vendor in a previous post, please post your agreement/disagreement.  I know if I find several folks all agree on a vendor, I'm likely to put more stock in that opinion, etc.  For the most part, this should be a GOOD/MIXED/BAD review of a vendor and why.

Example:
Billy Joe Jim-Bob Jr.'s Bike Parts Emporium
MIXED REVIEW

average prices
decent selection
very slow delivery
good customer service (easy returns/exchanges)

That's my idea of the basics anyway.  Maybe someone out there has a better way and obviously you'll sometimes need a more detailed explanation.  If something happens to make you change your mind, please try to update the original post as some folks may not get to the addendum.  I think this will be a handy reference for all of us.

Thanks, Rob

I'm going to summarize these posts for ease of use (I use it a lot), feel free to comment - V1

Well, I've bought three items from www.oneidasuzuki.com, which I found out about here.  A Windshield, saddle bag supports and a full face HJC helmet for $62.00.   My experience on these OEM pieces were:

best Suzuki prices I've found (always discounted, and I'm cheap!)
very limited selection of Savage gear and parts
7-10 delivery
questionable return policy ( no consideration of returns on helmet if it doesn't fit)

Overall, I'll probably buy a luggage rack and engine case guard from them, too.

ronayers.com:
Best prices on OEM parts
reliable service

Performance International:
Best price by far on K&N drop-in air filters and free shipping.

JC Whitney:
They have lots of novelty acc
fast shipping.

JPCycles
Great, fast service, but pricey.

E-bay:
Selection varies
Prices are determined by buyer.
Be careful!

Local dealership:
Go there if you are desparate.
Lousy service
High prices.

Good place to buy tires

I just bought a rear tire for my Virago from JC Motors Motorcycle Accessories on eBay on Monday & it was at my door two days later.  I saved $30-40 over the cheapest price I could find from from any local shop.  Just wanted to pass it along.

http://www.jcmotors.com/

Click on New Accessories on the left-hand side & it will take you to their eBay store where you can search for your tire size.

The two I buy most from:

Ronayers.com and crotchrocket.com
Both have online "fiche" break downs
Both take around 10 days to my door
Both discount the oem parts but neither is best
On the major parts crotchrocket is around 10% cheaper
on the small parts - gaskets, filters, and such ronayers is cheaper.

The test:

- cam chain part# 12760-24b00
Ronayers - $74.86  crotchrocket - $69.18

- chain adjuster # 12830-24b01
Ronayers - $44.49  crotchrocket - $40.04

-adjuster mount bolt # 90108-08194
Ronayers - $5.47 crotchrocket - $7.06

-oil filter # 16510-37450
Ronayers - $3.92 crotchrocket - $5.06

Performance International

Prices -- Good

Delivery -- FAIR

Customer Service -- Excellent!!!

I ordered the K&N Replacement Filter from them.  Their delivery was slower than normal as they had to order the filter from the factory, have it shipped to them and then ship it to me.  Took 9 days total from order date to receipt at the front door.

Their customer service I thought was excellent.  I did call them, and Doug promptly returned my call and explained why the shipment was taking so long.

If you're in a hurry for the filter, this may not be your best route, but for the price it is worth the little extra wait.

AlaskaLeather.com

Sheepskin Butt Pads

Good prices - $39 for Savage rider seat

Shipping - Average (6 days via USPS from Alaska to Indiana)

Product - Excellent quality (deluxe version), product is as advertised and the butt feels 100% better with the pad as opposed to without the pad. Cheesy

I do plan on ordering the pillion pad from them in the future as well.

Vendor:  www.newenough.com
Products:  Currently has alot of motorcycle gear. Check out the clearance section for really great deals.   Carries all major brands, Joe Rocket, First Gear, ect. Have all sizes including *ahem* "bigger sizes"..  Sigh..

Accepts PayPal, Visa, ect

Great prices
Fast delivery
Good customer service (email and phone)

Product purchased:  Joe Rocket Pheonix 4.0, it is a mesh jacket that includes CE armor, rain jacket.  Has key chain built in, visor storage pocket (kind useless if you ask me), MP3 player pocket and head phone socket.  Yes you can wear your headphones with this jacket.  (Not sure I'd use that...)  But the pocket is nice..
As far as fit, I'd go up a size than what you normally wear.   Anyways I'm satisfied with the jacket, I'm sure it will be nice once we hit the dog days of summer.

+1 on NewEnough.com.  I've bought a couple of things from them and have been impressed.  Selection varies because it's often overstocks or last year's model, etc. but the stuff is new and the prices are very good.  Fast shipping and excellent customer service.  I should qualify the fast shipping though.  They are located in Shallowater Texas (just outside Lubbock in the Texas panhandle).  That's just about 350 miles from me.

Just wanted to report my experience with the Slipstreamer Windshield Company.
I lost the T-nut that adjust & holds my Spitfire Windshield on during Saturday's ride. Called the company this morning and they are mailing (at no Charge) a replacement. She said she would put it in the mail today so I wouldn't miss out on any rides. I call that service. They don't even sell from their site but their customer service is great.

Tires Unlimited gets a positive vote- good prices and fast shipping. Unfortunately, UPS gets a big thumbs down. TU shipped my new Dunlops and tubes the next morning after I ordered them the evening of June 18.  The package tracking shows UPS physically received the tires on the morning of the 19th (so TU did their job well), but once the tires got to the UPS hub in Indy they sat for almost three days! The notation said 'delivery delayed, package inadvertantly left in UPS facility' or some such. But I finally got them today, and I'm pumped to get em mounted.
