I just want to post a "band-aid" apology in case my previous comments have offended, hurt, or damaged anyone in this forum; it was never my intention and never will. If I did, I beg your pardon.

Ride safe, buddies

I went through a similar process, I started and deleted my comments several times before making the final statement.  Ya'll are right though, we should stay with the theme of the site.  My apologies for letting my guard down.
Red, your OK man...I have no problem with anything you said.

Good weather is here, let's ride!

Ok - back to the topic - I think several folks here have put the K&N in the standard airbox - when you did it can you tell any difference without at least adding some holes to the air box?

Reelthing, even with a stock air filter, I found the bike runs better if you take off the airbox door. Would be better yet if you turned the door into a "scoop" behind the side panel. I had to open my airbox up, I stuffed the regulator in the under seat air intake...fits pretty good. I'm too lazy to relocate the regulator to the top of the swingarm or the exhaust hanger bracket base.

I was looking over the airbox lastnight - rather complex design for such a simple function, I see they even change it along the way and went from a single large hole in the top to twin holes - they must be trying to balance (restrict) the air to match the lean jets to keep the epa happy.

diddo I took the cover off and noticed a Significant increase. free horse power is the best Shocked. A word of caution my bike is a 86 Tongue and has a 155 main and I noticed it went quite lean if you have a later model bike take care to richen it up before making this simple change. I only say this because it is one of the easyest and cheapest mods. Therefore it is likely to be attempted by newcomers to this bike.  8)

Yes.  There is an increase in flow with the K&N replacement and I have just been happy with K&N filters on all my vehicles for several years now.

I've seen forums turn into ugly places due to discussion of politics.  I'd hate to see that happen here.

I'd suggest a gentleman's agreement to leave our gun's at the door.

There's other places on the net if you want to argue politics.   I'd rather see this place stay on the friendly level it has always been, so far.

Question on the air filter, should the air filter that fits the newer Savage's, also fit the 86-88s?

The newer savage filters "Do Not" fit the 1986 thru 1988 savages.

What kind of cautions should I take to put a K&N filter on my 1990, 400cc Savage?
Rejetting? just increase the mix?

Thanks.

Git,

It has never been friendlier here than right now.

I think we can talk about everything we want here, provided there is respect for each other; I can't share a brew with most of you, but whenever I stop by here, my mood is exactly that one: a friendly chat, sometimes passionate, yeah, around a few beers at my favorite bar...

Ride safe, man
