License Plate Cracking

Has anyone else had issues with their license plate cracking? I think its due to wind resistance and the new cheap/thin plates Michigan uses now. Purchased a backplate to hopefully fix this.

PA plates are no better. Mines cracked 1/3 of the way across. I think the vibration is the culprit.

It's the bike, not the plate. That plate bracket shakes like crazy. A couple of layers of duct tape on the back of the plate.Punch holes through the tape with a big phillips screwdriver, big flat washers on the bolts.

Definitely a known issue.  It's the vibration and maybe a little bit of air pushing against it, too.  Both top corners on mine are gone at the bolt holes and I have it fixed up.

I used a license plate off a car, cleaned everything up, used Devcon five minute epoxy to add a layer of metal.
Trim, install, seems to be surviving after a couple of years.

USA a plate holder that surrounds the entire plate and use bolts on all 4 corners.

I have an extended aluminum license plate backer that came on my bike from another state that required it for registration stickers. I took it off when I got the bike and plates cracked every time. Put it back on and no more issues with cracked plates.

Had the same plate since 1996 , but use full backing plate , full front frame and bolts in all four corners.

I'm puzzled. My plate seems to be doing just fine. I have a chrome frame and four bolts, nothing special? Smiley

Of course.

My normal RPM is around 4k= 62 mph or so. Around town it is limited by the speed limit. Up and down as needed.

Norm ,I was joking about the you riding at 3000 rpm . but if anyone is interested, you can determine your rpm  in 5th gear on a stock bike by multiplying your speed by 66.8  ex: 62 mph x 66.8 = 4,141.6 rpm. . Early 4speed bikes ,use 66.12  ex; 62 x 66.12 =4,099 .4 rpm.

I've got a tach on my bike so the mental gymnastics is not necessary. Smiley

I used them to determine the speed ranges where I wanted the boosts to fall when I tuned my intake , being most of the charts list them in RPM's , and to judge proper shift points.

Place garden hose rubber washer between license plate and frame.  One for each screw.
