It's not too late, but I'd consider welding up the brake mount for the big brake kit. The OEM brake performance is nothing short of horrible. It fades almost as soon as it is squeezed and it doesn't seem to ever recover.

Now just the some handle bars and a little wiring to get to a test drive.

Compared to the drum brakes I'm used to it's they are great  Smiley  But to your point, my main goal is to road test the suspension design, I'll look into brakes on the final version, thanks for the ideas.

Don't you dare put turn signals on it.
A tiny bright tail/brake light will be enough.

I can't wait to see what you do with the frame. Hardtail ?
So low it will bottom out on a garden hose ?
A very interesting build !
We are glad you chose SS to showcase your build.

Loving the progress, cant wait to see it mounted on the bike.  Wondering if you may have clearance with the stock tank when you do your test ride.  Something to consider when mocking up your bars.

I wonder why my welds don't come out like that ?
------------------

That's tig.  It's like brazing with an arc welder.  If you don't have one, you'll be hard pressed (as in pretty much impossible) to stack welds like that.  This thread makes me want to buy one.  The 110v mig I borrowed from my buddy for my project was pretty limited, but the price was right.  It only cost me $100s in beer...so far!  Smiley

Hardtail.  Low, within reason.  Planning for lots of curves in the frame too.

This looks like it's a great place, it won't be long and I'll have lots of questions as I get in chain swap and wiring and other things specific to the Savage.

ohiomoto good catch on the tank interference, I didn't mention it yet but the top clamp interferes so I have a tiny test tank just to get it on the road.  I'm hoping just another day or two to be ready for a test drive. I might trim the bars a bit once I fit the brakes and clutch levers.  And yes, the mirrors are ugly, I just wanted to go around the block legally.  By the way that's my first bike in the background.

I have had it out for a few test drives, can't go too far on liter of gas  Smiley  Feels pretty good.  Started with the shock around 50 psi and worked up to about 160 psi.  50 was way too soft and 160 feels pretty good.  I tested it on the bumpiest stretch of road nearby and it rides nice.  160 psi is right in the middle of the design for the shock so that's good I think.  I think new tank that holds more than a liter is next.

Thanks.  I think the next tank for this frame will be simply functional, the curvy one will come when I build the custom frame.  I want to do top tubes above and below the tank so that probably means a split tank.

Thanks.  Good question, I'm not sure yet.  Bigger parts will probably be powder coated the same color as the rest of the frame.  I was thinking I'd do an accent color or possibly chrome on some of smaller parts, like the shock linkage as it travels up and down quite a bit while the bike is moving.

Temporary tank.  It will hold 1.25 gal, a big upgrade over 1.5 pints I had to start  Smiley  Just need to figure out a mounting strap of some kind, there's a simple cradle connected to the top engine mount to support it.
