How are you going to measure the height of the fork oil if the forks are installed on the bike? You want 140mm of space between the top of the fork tube (compressed) and the top of the oil level. This is measured with the GV installed and the spring, spacer and washers removed.

A)   pull the caps, springs and spacer and let the forks compress - take the measurement and add oil.

B)  just ask you how much oil did you put in?  lol
I think it was ~ 15.5 oz?????  a little less than stock??????

In order to take the measurement, the forks have to be vertical, i.e removed from the bike and standing upright. I know that my level is 140mm, but I'm not sure how much oil is actually in the forks. I originally topped the the forks off at a 130mm level, but found the last 1/3 of travel too stiff, so I reduced the level to 140mm. I really have no idea how much fluid are in my forks. It's in the neighborhood of 15oz...but I can't give you an exact figure. I'm still thinking about reducing the height an additional 5mm for a 145mm air gap.

Mike, after all of the work you put into the forks, get this last step right. There is a big difference between 140mm and 130mm (and I suspect +/- 10mm in either direction from there). The level needs to be exactly even in both forks otherwise tuning will be problematic because each fork will respond differently to changes.

You can try to wing it by adding 15oz to each fork. I think this amount will put you somewhere between 120mm to 140mm. From my experience, for someone in our weight range, 120mm is too much oil. You'll only use 50% of the available stroke (you want to use 80-90%). If you find that the last third of the stroke needs adjustment (too stiff or too soft), every 0.3 oz (easiest measured with a syringe) represents 10mm in oil height in the fork. Too stiff = remove oil / too soft (bottoming out) = add oil.

I think it's just easier to remove one fork at a time and get it right.

for now, I'm going to have to add fork oil by the ounce.  I only have 3 more days to get any work done, on the bike before surgery.  Then, I won't be able to do squat for a couple of months.   Sad

goal: get it running by Friday.  I won't have the turn signals or tail light installed, they haven't come in yet.

side covers will also not be mounted.

Seems my shop kids helped themselves to all the racetech stickers from my emulator / spring swap.

Anyone have a pair of the small racetech stickers they aren't gong to use (or any of the other sizes...) they can send me?  I want to put a set on the forks....

rt side.   installed rear blinkers on welded tab "ala dave".
exhaust on and tight.   darn header pipe holes were crossthreaded!  Nothing suprises me.  but I was able to get them tapped and straight (lucky for sure).

Started right up.

Last to do:  tail light.  going to a surface mount on the rear tail.  Hopefully, it will be here tomorrow so I can finish it up.
