Engine swap
03/29/14 at 09:19:42

You may have seen elsewhere on the forum that I have a second savage, minus an engine that is being re-built.

I now have an engine for it, but have a couple of questions.

The engine number is 112483, any idea what year it is?

Also, the bike it's going into is a 96. The igniter unit on the bikes wiring loom has two connectors (seven wires, and two wires). The igniter unit with the engine has nine connectors in one block. Can I use the one that came with the bike, and if I have to use the 'engine' one, what's the wiring plan?

Thanks in advance

Use the igniter assembly that matches the frame and wiring harness.

the TDI's between the 2 years aren't compatible, different timing and wiring.
you'll either have to swap the igniter and connector or the rotor.

Great stuff, thanks.

One more question.

The seven pin connector (orange/white, black/yellow, green, black x2, orange, black, black/white) matches the wiring diagrams, but the two wire connector (green, brown/black) doesn't seem to appear anywhere. Any ideas?

I have the igniter, but no wiring plan for the connectors
