Not really a fan of the cafe racer thing but this is looking sweet. Love the wheels and tires. What kind of handlebars are those?

Fender adds to the flow of the look i think, seems to balance out the tank. I say keep it!

What does THIS bike have to do with a café racer?

Euro bars. Superbike bars. Tracker bars.

Have also seen them called Eurosport, Eurotour, Commando...

http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/c1/buy/m-c-parts/ everything and more that you could ever want for a custom build, including 1" to 7/8" riser reducers...

Cafe racers almost invariably have clubman or clip on bars, bumpstop seat/tail, and good tires. Trackers tend to have tracker bars and a flat or slightly upswept seat, and street knobbies (TT) or other vintage tire tread patterns. With a lot of style blending these days...

Look through the pics in this sub-section, http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?board=49.0

Higher end finish work than most Savages could ever dream of having done to them.

I like what you said about not knowing jack about café racers.  That explains it.

Saying a "scrambler" type of bike is like a café racer is like saying a hopped up dune buggy is like a Corvette.

Below are pics of two bikes which use the same frame and motor.  One is set up as a scrambler and one as a café racer.

Wow, that Triumph looks sweet Cool! Drum front, awesome! I love it.
Jiggy's scrambler, also sweet. I like the back fender on, and a bit longer than it is now. My 2c, YMMV etc.

I like that drum brake too.  I'm toying with putting a Suzuki 4LS drum brake from the early GT750 water buffalo on my RYCA CS-1.

Functionally it would be a silly thing to do because it is heavier than the Savage set up, and it would be a lot of work.

I doubt it would have any more stopping power, either.  The Savage front brake, with a braided hose and proper pads works pretty stinkin' well for a street bike.

The big honkin' aluminum lump of a 4LS drum brake just has more "period cool" for a bike that is supposed to reflect the mechanical persona of the 1960's.

Jiggyfly, I'm not suggesting anything at all, but I was wondering if you have considered using a drum brake, maybe from a Suzuki or other jap bike from the 1960's.  Most scramblers in those days had drums.

Yes, that would be a super cool look on the Ryca, for sure. And a lot less $$ than a Fontana or a Menani.

If I did wire spoked wheels, it's definitely the direction I would've taken.
With the cast wheels, it's a no-go.
Plus you can polish & machine/vent drum brakes & the look super cool, & still period correct.

Those cast wheels ARE cool.  Plus, after having spent maybe a hundred hours truing five spoked wheels in the Double RYCA Build, doing anymore spoked wheel work is not on my list of fun projects anymore,... so I envy your wheel-maintenance advantages.

This is just MY opinion, of course, but when you do set up a disc brake for the front, to stay with the persona of the scrambler, I'd go with the disc brake setup that had the least amount of "visual mass."  IOW, I'd use something relatively small and simple.

Same place you first stumbled on the build, DTT. Look in the selling section. Or Dime City Cycles and several other vendors. Even Omar's if you catch the staff in a remotely civil mood...
