25 years today w/o booze. Anyone else?
10/11/10 at 08:39:00

Not looking for any kudos really, would just like to share with my Savage buds that as of today, I have been alcohol free for 25 years. Believe me, I've had more of my share during my younger years. Woke up one morning and just said "no more." Wish I could do the same with cigarettes.

Anyone else here kick the booze? If yes, how long?

first off congratulations to you 25 years WoW that is impressive.
I quit drinking about 25 days ago, I quit smoking one year and one month ago.cigarettes are way harder than booze, just my opinion,
I still crave cigs but not booze, the problem is if I had a drink or two I would definately want a cigarette.
I'm doing it for my kids, they said they would get pissed off at me if I croaked,so here I am with nice sweet breath and no one to kiss. Sad

Not a bigger man at all. Got by with a little help from my friends/family. Couldn't do it without them.

Thanks for all of the congrats, and Mick, I'll tell ya, I stopped smoking for 6 months and like a complete fool, started again in March of this year. If anything is going to kill me, the smokes will.

I have quit a few times before, but not for this long, besides I gave my kids my word. And being an English gentleman I keep my word Smiley
After a quitting session I noticed I smoked more,is that happening to you ?

Just found out my mother-in-law most likely has lung cancer.  Don't know many details yet, but I agree, the smoking is awful.  If this gets confirmed, I believe I will quit with her, and my sister-in-law....

So were you an alcoholic... HAD to have it?  Or did you just decide to not drink anymore?  Just curious, and you don't have to elaborate.

I'm proud to call you a non-drinking friend!   Wink  Congrats!

I personally never really had a problem with alcohol. I am allergic to beer (2 or 3 sips and my throat closes up and I can't breath) and when it took me a week and a half to finish a four pack of wine coolers, I decided I wasn't a drinking man and gave it all up entirely. How long ago that was I have no idea, I know it was more than twenty years ago because I was a teenager at the time and I am 38 now. I too wish it was that easy with cigarettes.

But congrats to you on 25 years of being alcohol free.

In England we call cigarettes 'Fags'

So one may say "If you're going to the shop pick us up 20 fags.."

I'm guessing that might have a different meaning in distant shores... Grin

Good one thumper Smiley

BH: I was a roadie when I was 18 and partied 6 nights a week. Left for the venues around 1PM, set up the stage, done by 6-7 and had nothing to do but drink free booze until we broke it down, usually done by 3AM. Sleep and do it all over again. On the 7th day I drank because it was my day off Grin The kicker for me came when I didn't remember driving home. Woke up and the car was there, but had no memory of driving it home. Scared the crappers out of me. Had 2 friends die in booze related accidents around the same time...so enough.

Mick: I was out on disability from Late September to March, and didn't smoke that whole time. Went back to work and lasted a few weeks. Driving was the trigger. No excuse. I hate that I'm still smoking. Also stopped once for 2 years, and another time for 6 years. I've heard drug addicts say that it was easier to give up drugs than smokes.

Buried my Dad last year after he lost his battle with lung Cancer, and he stopped smoking 30 years ago. Diagnosed with Lung Cancer 15 years after he quit.

Congrats on the booze-quitting photojoe...

I have quit smoking several times in the last 20 years... but have never smoked much thou... one or two packs a week...

Drinking is different... I can go several weeks without drinking... and then, I can get in a real drinking spree for a few days in a row... go figure...  Huh

Best,

RW

Hugs and a great job. I am a cigaholic. I quit over 2 years ago. I call myself a cigaholic as I know with one puff I could be back smoking that easily. The sheer fact that my Asthma is more controllable now and the price of them, keeps me from taking that puff.

Celebrate each day and feel good that you have the strength to sustain away from taking a drink.. Smiley kim
