My opinions- based on my experience:
if you're already riding, maybe take the "advanced riders course" at least that's what they call it in PA.
You take your own bike, they assume you know how to start it and operate the controls. it is 2 - 3 nights or all day saturday.
i totally agree it doesn't make you a "rider" but it
does help. You get some tips from other people's " hard knocks" without as much risk. (you don't always survive otj on a motorcycle)
You're forced to practice some operations you might have been trying to avoid in "real life", lilke turning real slow in a tight space....easy to avoid on your commute most days
You will almost definitely be a better rider after the course than before.
Also read "Total Control" by Lee Parks (ignore the religious parts), and "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough.
