Hey Lancer, you're the man to ask this ...
I have a carb that is supposedly a 38 mm VM ... but wait ... it gets tricky here, the Genius that owned it before me ... bored it 1mm so its now a 39 mm ... OK apparently he removed all the stuff and bored it and then installed it back.
Yea ... OK so is it worth installing it on something ... and

I am really thinking of fitting it on the xs650 not the savage. But well, it needs a dual manifold and what not ... so ... lets cross that bride when we come to it.
Cool.
Srinath.

Sudco does not show a 2-1 manifold for the XS-650 in the catalog, but I will call the tech guys in a hours or so when they open up ... they are in California.  I will let you know what I find out.

I am not buying no sudco nothing. I have a few of these Y pipes I got from hacking up 4 cyl pipes. That and some metal pipes should do the trick.
Cool.

Dude..... hey, if you want to play with pipes then by all means, have at it.  Fun is fun, and cheaper for sure.

Just send me a PM and we can get set up.
I have 36mm VM's in stock.  They are more than capable of handling ANYTHING you can ever do to the LS650 engine.  Trust me on this.
The 36mm bore will have a higher incoming air velocity which increases throttle response over the 38.
I will need to know the model year of your bikes so the correct throttle cable can be selected.

Lancer I sent you an email, just wondering if you received the cam and carb I sent, I was also wondering if you could send me a UFO and dial a jet when you send the cam back my way. Thunder products wants to charge me 60 to 80 bucks shipping, and I can't hunt them down anywhere in Canada

the VM is not a CV type carb
because of this, more care must be taken when adding or subtracting throttle
However, the throttle response if you aren't ham fisted is much quicker and more precise
also one less (big expensive) rubber part to age, crack, and f up your carb, requiring repair / replacement of the diaphragm
might be some more HP there, too
if you're a novice rider, stick with rejetting the stocker
if you want a bike that will actually run well / be tunable with a pod air cleaner, you might want the VM

buying a VM 38 set up, ready to go = $400

rejetting the stock carb = $30

Nothing is ever 'set up ready to go', minor fine tuning is expected.
The effort will be in the order of 'rejetting the stock carb'

Curious for this mod do we retain the factory air box or put a pod in it? Also if so what size pod for this bike and should I order a 36mm or 38mm carb along with I have a slip on exhaust (voodoo cafe) on my s40 so when choosing jets how many above and below of the sizes recommended should I buy to properly Tune? Thanks so much!  Smiley

What is the bolt spacing for the intake spigot where it attaches to the head?  I’ve got old eyeballs and can’t get a good measurement.  Is it 74mm, 76mm, or something else?  Thanks in advance.
