Thanks to all, I was looking for something like a counter, but the combo lock is a far better idea because the wheels won't drift. Special thanks to Bill67, my wife and I enjoyed the good laugh.

I actually went today, today! to buy a cheapo luggage lock for mileage comparison (saw that's what someone else had done on here).

I went to Wal-mart expecting it to be like $3.   Cool

It was almost $7!!!   Sad

I didn't buy it yet hoping for a better deal somewhere else.   Roll Eyes

Has anyone seen the gas cap with the float on the bottom that also works as a fuel gauge?

$1.50? Most of the 'dollar' stores have items that are multiple dollars now. Sad

I go every 100 miles. If you try to do it when your last two digits are zero....... I did have the honor of running out of fuel on the interstate in the middle of no-where Maine, hitting the reserve and hoping I would find a station.

Yeah, that's what I do.  If you're getting 50+ mpg you've got 25-30 miles to find a gas station after switching to reserve.  I hardly ever have to switch.

Even tho I rarely have to switch, I still swing that petcock lever around once in a while, just to make sure it stays free, so if I do have to, I can.

O.K. here ya go, savage with a fuel gauge. Only catch is to make it work on a stock tank would be a difficulty factor of about 14 on a scale of 1-10.
But if your willing to switch tanks, it would be about 6

my donor tank came off a vulcan 750 (that bike does have a guage)

Thats a good idea.  I did switch yesterday for a while, it would be mihty disappointing to need reserve and find out then it didn't work! Angry.  Thanks Justin.

1)  I write mileage when I fill up on gas cap in dry erase marker
2) I have a Schwinn bicycle speedometer that let's me see the speed more easily and acts as a trip meter
3) I tap the tank

Just a matter of paying attention I think.
