I went for a ride and towards the end of the ride (30 miles from home) the bike starts to make a snapping noise and a motion that is hard to explain.  At first I thought something had come loose in the transmission.  It was like two gears weren't quite meshing and then sliding into place with a clunk.  

Come to find out, a small stone had been sucked into the belt and imbedding into the rear sprocket.  Everytime the belt came around it would ride over the stone and then drop into place.  

I was lucky that I was going slow at the time.  It took several anxious minutes to figure it out and once my heart started to slow down, I knew I would be alright.

Anyone else have this experience?

That would have been scary!  Hopefully if it happens to any of us in the future we'll have an idea what's going on!
