Yet another project??
07/16/22 at 13:40:07

Tomorrow I am heading to Washington state to visit my brother.  Okay, I'm really going up there to pick up a '52 Studebaker pickup that just happens to be 45 minute south of his house!  This is definitely an emotional purchase, as this was the model of my first vehicle at 18 years old.  The body is in very good shape for it's age, but it has been molested already with a small block Chevy and 4wd conversion.  It is an unknown chassis with a Studebaker body on it.  This one will take it's place last in the project line.

If you want to get it back to stock, you could google Studebaker Drivers Club.

Absolutely not.  I am thinking pro street.  Depends on the driveline condition.  If the trans, transfer case, and rear end are good, maybe lifted with 34's and a crate motor.  Probably a crate motor either way, actually!

Well, darn shame it's not the whole Studebaker, but the body is enough to get excited about. You load it up with the right engine and all and you'll be happy. If I could get my hands on it, it would be an Emotional transaction for me too. Never had one, never sat in one, but I just love old iron, and Studebakers are cool.

I always liked that Studebaker pickup body. Even better than the same vintage Chevys. It's those lovely rounded cab roofs and rear fenders.

Well, a 1300 mile round trip and $650 in diesel fuel and I got it home.  Thank God I put a 12,000 lb winch on my trailer as the right rear wheel was locked up.  I will need to disassemble the brake drum and break it loose so it will roll off my trailer.  Still in a bit of shock as this all came down in less than five days.  But the wife was on board with getting it, and we had had great time along the way.  I have lots of ideas for it, but this one is going to the end of the project line.  Get it off the trailer and park it next to the shop.

Very cool find! There was a guy in my high school back in the 1980’s that had one, the only one I’ve ever seen outside of a car show. I’d enjoy seeing you post that build here in the cafe once you get to it!

I really like the early 50’s pickups.  I had a 51’ Ford pickup at one time in 72’ but foolishly let it go.  It had a flat head v-8 engine and was running at the time.  I paid $150 for it back then.  😕
Oh well.

Some fancy yard art for now ! Road race car chassis and gently add cab and bed , nice n low , scuff & a satin clear coat to preserve the existing patina. Yup another grocery getter , but this one might get the eggs home !

I found a pic of my grandfather's dealership back in Crystal Lake, IL.  I am going to have the logo painted on the doors matching the patina.
