Best regards,
Already happening in my county. Monroe County in Western New York.
As of today 11 confirmed cases. No deaths. Plus a dorm at one of the local colleges where about a dozen kids that just returned from studying in Italy are finishing up their quarantine. As far as I know none of them are sick.
A couple of the 11 cases are what they call "community spread" They can't trace them back to a particular individual. so the assumption is that that virus is out there and infected people are walking around spreading it without being sick themselves. Hence the seemingly drastic measures in spite of the small number of actual cases in the county so far.
Over the weekend all the local hospitals postponed all but emergency surgery indefinitely, and wont allow any visitors. No visitors at nursing homes.
All schools are closed until further notice. Colleges are closing their dorms and switching to online classes until the end of the semester, or they are ending the semester early and sending the kids home.
Bars and restaurants are closed. Restaurants can still do take-out orders.
Most businesses are still open as of this morning but that could change except for grocery stores, drugstores, and whatever other businesses the county health dept. decides are "essential".
Working from home is encouraged if possible.
Anone over 65, or who has any kind of chronic respiratory issue or a compromised immune system for some other reason is advised to isolate themselves at home.
A drive through test facility has been set up at one of the local hospitals for people who need to be tested. They wont test everyone. Only people who have been advised to go there by their primary care Dr. or the County health dept. I'm not exactly sure how that is supposed to work, but that's what the announcement said.
My dog was supposed to go to the vet next Monday for a teeth cleaning for which she needs to be anesthetized . The vet's office called a little while ago and told me that they might decide to close sometime before then except for emergencies, and if so they would call and tell me not to come.
I had to go to my bank yesterday and run a couple of other errands. Traffic was lighter than usual and the only cars in the parking lot at the strip mall across the street from the bank were in front of the liquor store.
