Being Christian does not make you a victim.
Posting Christian dogma does open you up to critique.
Eegore could be the most devout Christian here,... but he keeps his beliefs to himself.  Or he could be an atheist.
This exposes him to nothing.

The purpose of this forum is debate, not proselytizing...

Not really... but in case you didn't know:

moot
/mo͞ot/

-having little or no practical relevance, typically because the subject is too uncertain to allow a decision.

mn's question is without any merit and, given his history, will do no good to explain why I feel the way I do about morality.

If you can't gather that from the history of his posts, then I don't know what to tell you.

Sero's post hits the nail on the head as to how I feel.

BTW - this is an example of me taking the high road. (if you don't have anything nice to say - then don't say anything at all...)

Seriously, what the hell does that even mean?  How am I deceiving you in any way?  I might be avoiding you, but not deceiving...

You may want to look up the meaning of the word "subterfuge".... oh, and work on the the whole "their" thing too.

But you know what?  I'll take my valuable time to answer your question mn....

The way I see it is this - if a Christian makes a mistake like swearing or whatever they might consider a "sin" - their easy out is "well gee, I'm a sinner and the Lord will forgive me"...

In the case of an Atheist, they have no one to fall back on.  They can't just say "Gee, I'm a sinner" - they have to defend themselves - rationalize it in the real world.

Example - a Christian gets angry at his kid and yells and screams and swears.  Later on, they talk and he tells his kid "I'm sorry, Lord knows I'm trying to be a better person, but I'm just a sinner and I'm praying God will help me with my temper - can you forgive me?"

An Atheist gets angry at his kid and yells and screams and swears.  Later on, they talk and he tells his kid "I'm sorry, I'm trying to be a better person, but I realize I have to work harder to control myself - can you forgive me?"

In fact, no - here's my response that I posted before your pathetic behaviour:

Are you wearing any clothes made of more than one kind of fabric?
Do you ever shave or cut your hair?
Have you ever heard someone take the Lord's name in vain? If so, did you stone that person?
Have you ever worked on the Sabbath? (Mowed the lawn, did some laundry, maybe made dinner?)
Do you like a nice, juicy steak? Do you know what that juice is? Blood.
   Have you ever touched bacon?
   How about seafood?

These are sins the God tells you not to do.
Why do you do them?...
"Oh, that's Old Testament... We ignore that."
Why?
Was God just kidding with the Old Testament?
When Jesus walked around telling people how to be,... he was basing his morality on the Old Testament... (That's all there was)
Did Jesus wear mix blend clothes?... did he eat shellfish?... Pork?...

Why do you choose to ignore these moral codes?
You choose to do so based on your personal morality.
Not what God said, not what Jesus said,... what you believe.
..and that's basically what I believe.
Do you stone gays or fornicators to death?... Do you beat your wives or slaves?... your children?...
Why not?...
Your personal moral code doesn't agree with it.
You are choosing to disobey God because of your personal moral code, and I commend you.
Now lookie there... you are moral in spite of God.

"Ray can be attacked as being hypocritical to his belief system because he has stated a belief system."

I don't think its the "belief" system that is the issue.  I would have the same exact question if he said he was an Atheist that looked for the best in people.  The religion is not in question, the action is.

Its the words, correlated to the actions that I question.  Being Christian means nothing.

"Ray has opened himself up to attack on two levels, everyone else on one."

This only applies if anyone assesses words and religion separately, which makes no sense.  Why he says them is irrelevant, its what he says that is evaluated, this goes for all humans capable of saying things.

We call that hypocrisy.
