Online Sources for OEM Parts

Hey guys and gals, I am new to the site. Couldn't find a thread dedicated to this in the search, and thought it was a worthy topic.

Just bought a 2009 S40 last weekend, 14,500 miles. Right away there were a number of things I needed to replace. The fuel petcock was already bad (the seller had the vacuum line disconnected with a golf tee shoved in, always running on 'prime'), the clutch slips above 30 mph (going to try the longer pushrod Old Feller recommends), as well as change front pads and fluid, motor oil and filter, etc.

On this site some people have mentioned ronayers.com as a good source for OEM parts online. However you need to spend a minimum of $150 to get free shipping, and basic 2 week shipping to me (California) is $20.

Any of you use other sources for OEM parts online to avoid a $20 shipping fee each time? Suzukipartshouse.com seems to be the same. Some have mentioned bikebandit.com, but I dont know if it is any better?

It's time to address the cam chain tensioner.
Batman eliminated the pawl thousands of miles ago. No indication of that being a mistake yet.
The Versy is the most accepted approach.
You can do both.

Check your clutch indicator on the engine case.
It's possible it needs a different rod.
It's possible the clutch is polluted with friction modifiers.
Or both,

To avoid a puzzle
Draw the outline of the engine case on cardboard

Stab it where the bolts would be
Stick them in as you remove them from the engine.

Yeah, shipping is a fact of life, usually you don't have to tell someone how to game the system.

Most will give you free shipping with $99
So, buy what you need now and think about what you'll need later.
filters (air/oil), tires, brakes (every 5k), tools (that handy dandy valve lash gauge), sparky, oil (if there isn't a convenient wallyworld) gaskets (clutch cover in particular) and get all 3 lengths of the clutch throwout rod (you never know which length you have) and they're cheap.

Thanks for the other sources everyone. Looks like at the current moment, partsoutlaw.com has the best shipping rate, $5 to my zip code.

It makes sense to stock up on parts you know you need in order to meet the price minimum for the free shipping, I didn't think about that.

I plan on changing the cam chain tensioner as well, was gonna open the clutch cover tomorrow just to make sure a previous owner didn't already change it before I hit up Verslagen.

I sometimes buy from the dealer......I had ordered enough stuff from them that they knew me, and would order with just a telephone call. A week or so later the parts would arrive, and I would drive over to pick them up and pay them.....the parts were full retail price with tax added. A couple years ago the owners changed, the parts folks don't know me and want me to pay for the parts when I order......I have never taken the time to renew "pay when I pick it up" relationship with the new folks - I order from Bike Bandit now and pay less and get the parts just as fast - and I don't have to spend an hour driving to the dealer and back. If I spend $100 I get free shipping.

I recently ordered from bike bandit and am very unhappy. It took over two weeks for the order to arrive and when it did all the parts were wrong. When I called they said it was a problem with the website and offered to send the correct parts.
Since I can’t wait another 2+ weeks I ordered the same parts from Babbits. I’m hoping they’ll be faster to ship and send the right parts.

Thanks. But my Babbitts order is already in the mail. If they got my order right I should be good to go.

Update: just checked the tracking and it’s out for delivery already. That’s fast considering it shipped Wednesday

Nearly all of the online retailers do not have Suzuki OEM factory parts in their inventory (or Yamaha, or Honda, or Guzzi, etc.). They have to order the parts from the warehouse distributor - which is exactly the same process your Suzuki dealer will use for most parts on the Savage. Most dealers will stock things like batteries, oil filters, air filter...maybe tires and tubes - but most of the parts will not be stocked and will have to be ordered.

If you order from an online retailer that is a dealer and has a big warehouse.....there is a chance. Your Babbits contact is one of those places that has a larger inventory than Bike Bandit, JP Cycles, Ron Ayers, Motorcycle Superstore, etc. - and these places also stock more parts.
