Handlebar question
11/11/16 at 14:18:32

How are the hand grips attached to the handlebars?  I know that the right side must use some method that allows the throttle grip to rotate, but I am not sure how the whole assembly is attached to bars.  This is also true for the left side.  I thought that it would simply slide off with the loosening of a set screw or something, but I couldn't find any such fastener.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Left side is glued on.

Right side is molded to match a throttle tube.
The throttle tube has ribs and runners so it's real fun to get off.
To remove the grip and tube, remove the screws that fasten the control.

Maybe I wasn't too clear in my previous msg.  I really don't want to remove just the rubber part of the grips, but the whole assy. of parts that actually slip over the handlebars.  My goal is to either replace the handlebar or to lengthen each end approx. 1-1/2" to make them a bit longer, and then to put the grips back over them, thus hiding my "extensions."

The left side is glued on. The controls (switches) are fastened with screws from the bottom. The right side is part of the throttle and will come off when the controls are removed from the right side.

Here's an article in the tech section about removing the grips http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1216253729/0
