Handle bar width

The bars on our new bike are only 27" tip to tip which seems a little narrow for this style of bike, most bikes of this size and style have bars up to 6" longer, is this normal?  Looking at pictures of other s40s they look wider...

What is normal?

The early bikes had "buckhorn" handlebars that where taller and wider than the later bikes.  Some riders don't like the fact that these handlebars required your wrist to be at a weird angle....and loosening the clamps and moving the bars to a position that suits you best sometimes helps.

Later bikes had risers and narrow "drag bars" for a more modern cruiser look.  They are a bit narrower than the buckhorns - but seem to work fine for most folks.

If you decide to change to really wide or tall handlebars the length of the cables on the early bikes is longer and may allow for easier fitting.  If you re-route your cables you may be able to use the shorter cables that were on the later bikes.
