You can put me down as "Yes", as in, I will for sure meet up at least one day, but as far as staying in a cabin, I'm not sure. It's about a 2 hour ride for me from Austin. I'll need to check with the wife see if she wants to do a cabin or what not. I'll at least meet up for one day if I'm unable to camp with y'all.

If you are going to take the Trace it will add hours to your ride.  From Nashville to Jackson I know someone that took it and they made it in about 11 hours.  If you go the interstate through Birmingham it should take about 7.  I haven't done the whole thing, but it is relaxing ride.  Just don't speed and I think the speed limit is 50 the whole way.

I'm in the process of putting the long legs on my LS now (25 tooth front pulley)  so you know I thinking of telling the GPS "Fastest Way"  Smiley   Between the oversize tire and the larger pulley -- the speedometer is about 15% slower than the GPS speed (65 turns into 75mph)

Pgambr , you ought to go with us !   Its guaranteed fun , and from Natchez is only a days ride  Wink

Natchez is only about 5 hrs (or so says yahoo maps), from there to Killeen

Unless you have a reason to go to Killeen, I just want to make sure you know the place to go is Kerrville.  I would hate for you to end up in the wrong town and wonder where we were!!

LOL! looks like i'll just meet MMR at Natchez and follow him! ROFL...   Cheesy Grin Grin Cool

Its an hour difference according to the map...but , you never know....

How come I never heard of this?! I might have to look into that, I've been dying to find a way to lower RPMs and slightly increase Top Speed. I hadn't seen anything in the tech section.

Must've missed something?  Huh

Well  Art and Savskad

turns out a Kawasaki 454 pulley will fit the splines and add 2 teeth to the front drive.  The belt is barely long enough to make it work  Smiley.   Now Kawaski uses a different system to secure the pulley.  But its like my dad used to say "Where there's a will, There's a way".  So if ya have an engineering sprit about ya , you can make it fit.   A word of advice :  Kawasaki uses some really good steel and hardness it so much that tooled steel cutters won't touch it , but an angle-grinder will.  Wink  I use thread lock to secure the nut on mine.   I've found a Kawasaki (80-82) 750 belt drive rear sprocket(65 teeth) fits the belt but needs a lot of machining to make it work, Dave has mastered that one.  Smiley

MMRanch,

I have more questions, should I PM you or start a different thread? I don't want to digress too much on this thread.

Just go to the Kawasaki Pulley Thread......ask your questions there.

reading that made me sad
the work is beyond my tools / skills / confidence, and it seems my bike is doomed to rapid wear (I do have the 140/90 shinko though, it do help)
the XS100, on the other hand, is already 34 years old, obviously built to last, and for the interstate
so it see,s that while I love the S40, I better plan on retaining the XS1100
Maybe next time I'll get a more modern bike
Vstars have hydraulic valves, no adjustments

I plan on keeping the S40 for my wife to learn how to ride, and use as a starter bike. I'm already wanting a 2nd bike though, the Yamaha FZ-07. It's a twin cyl 700 and comes in at an MSRP of $6990.

I think it's a bit out of my skill level too, but I'll probably still give it my best shot. I think it would be well worth it to drop the RPMs down and have a top speed of over 100. I won't...ever um...go over 100  Wink

yeah, but you need the RIGHT two
unfortunately, I made a bad choice with the XS100
It's not a bad bike, but it's not right for me
Maybe just the front pulley, like MM, if I get to feeling brave
then again, as I've posted earlier, I don't really LIKE riding all that fast lol
