I did it!!!
04/28/06 at 14:12:39

So I was gonna wait and get me a used Savage but I couldn't resist.  I just got back from putting a deposit down on my very own brand new shiny black 2005 S40!  I'll have to wait 4-6 weeks cause it's on layaway till I can get up the amount they want on a down payment, but it's got my name on it!

Now, to make a list of what she needs as soon as she hits 600 miles.  Rejet and exhaust, for sure... and that pesky idle screw...

good for you, nothing better tan a bright new shiny machine.
i did the same thing in 04.  then bobbed it to make it really "bad arsed".  i think ev ry rider should get a brand spanking new machine at least once. next savage will be used though.

actually i'm thinking of getting a couple and make "chick choppers" out of them.  no offensve ladies for the name.

Bit apprehensive on a new bike as my first but if I be real careful and dont do something dumb and drop her, I'll be ok.  And shell treat me better than any other woman would.

Yeah, credit's not too good but they told me it would be easier to go with the new 05 instead of the 06 and they could get me done.  Don't matter... Savage has been the same since... 1986?  With only one major change in 95 - the 5speed...

I don't think theres much difference between 05 and 06...

I couldnt resist and I didn't want to wait 3 months for that guy at work to sell me his.  In that time, I could be out there learning to ride.  Maybe go visit Laconia's bike week, whenever that is.

*prays* Don't lay her out, don't lay her out...

I found I stopped dropping bikes after I observed the following 3 basic principles:

1. Have a cockpit drill for move off and pull up. ie. have a fixed, mental order in which you stop. For example ..

a. pull in clutch
b. ease brake
c. stop
d. find neutral
e. turn her off.
f. side stand
fi. double check sidestand
fii. lean her over while still on bike to ..
fiii tripple check sidestand.

Also.

2. Never warm the bike up on its side stand.

3. And .. never .. ever .. attempt a u-turn anywhere.

Sorted.  Grin

I NEVER park my bike in neutral. Some clown may lean on it, and over it goes.

Yeah a lot of guys I know leave it in gear ..

Hence, pulling the clutch in when its started up.

My instructor, bless his long dead remains, never deigned to teach me much of anything.

I have some odd habits for sure.

Although, I am not easily visualizing how the bike being in neutral would help prevent it being knocked over?

Also, if you dont put it in neutral, do you turn it on, put it in neutral or put it in neutral then turn it on?

I warm mine up, for usually 5 mins to ensure everything is liberally coated in oil and the clutch plates are gripping etc.

Again .. I always have ..

Am I just a quaint lil'english dude? Smiley

Ahh no wait, my gin addled grey stuff has sparked.

You mean pushed forward, or in a motion sufficient to slide the side stand along ..

Maybe its the bikes I have, but they all have a very harsh lean angle on their side stands. You really couldnt do that with mine, so maybe its a habit borne out of neccessity?

Wait, why not warm it up on the sidestand?

See this is good info for when I go pick it up.  I want to know all this stuff first.
