Well, the pics are too big. Looks better if you go to bikepics & look up 2005 S40 under the name "thumperdude". babbalou was already taken.

Works fine, nice looking bike. Did you paint the belt guard or did it come that way??

Thanks. I painted it. Rattlecan gloss black Rustoleum. Buffed the chrome first so it wouldn't flake off. Wasn't sure how I'd like it at first but it's growing on me.

Nice work !! Some questions:
Is that a Sportster bar or standard S40?
How'd ya do the seat?
What pipe is that?
What mirrors are those and do they vibrate more than stock?
Have you thought about de-badgeing it?

I'm thinking the look of your  bike is the direction I want to take mine...with some differences of course...very nice in my opinion!  What's next?

Thanks. I'm "technology challenged" but I'll try to get pics of the details soon without going through bikepics, since they said they don't do parts anymore. Those are Sportster bars. Feel great. Wider & a nice, comfortable curve on the wrists. Those are JC whitney mirrors. Yep, they vibrate! Tongue Sorta lightweight compared to the stockers. Will get better ones soon. I'm considering de-badging it, mainly to keep people guessing. Grin For the seat, I cut off the back 'cause the hump was where I sat. Then I raised it with some pieces of 1" square hollow aluminum bars from Home Depot. Cut off two 3" pieces & JB glued them to the frame rails under the rubber seat pads. Still too low so I put 2 6" pieces across those. Then I cut 2 4" pieces of steel strips & drilled holes in the ends & used them as extensions for the back 2 bolts. Painted it black to match. Way more comfortable for me now. That's a Harley FLT pipe I bought from Lancer. Next is a Superbrace, maybe in March.

Why did you modify the kick stand?

How do you like the fork guards? Were they hard to put on?

I kinda like the black belt guard.

How tall are you? Do you feel like you have to lean forward more with those bars?

I hadn't noticed that spring. Gotta check that tomorrow. The pegs look a little ratty. Might replace them. For more legroom I cut off the top part, that hollow area & put them on upside down. Then wrapped them up in black tape. Used "rescue tape". Strong stuff but a little shiny & picks up dirt too easily. Also I ground down the chrome flaps at the end of the pegs 'cause they were sticking way up past the rubber after I thinned them down. My feet are about an inch lower now but I'm considering other pegs for a cleaner look.

The fork guards were sort of a pain to put on. Had to pull off the forks. The kickstand is stock but I glued a thick aluminum nut under the pad since it leaned so much with the 12.5" shocks. In 1 or 2 pics I have a small block of wood under it. The bars are an easy reach though lower than stock. I'm 6'1" but a little taller & I'd have to lean forward some. At some point I may drill out that kickstand pad & bolt on an aluminum block.

The more I look at your bike, the more I see it as a hybrid. It kinda has this cruiser meets standard / sportbike look to it.  It's unique. Nice job.

Thanks. I was sort of going for a retro thumper look, like a Matchless G series or old Norton, along with making it fit better. I had also planned to put a whitewall on back & a brown leather seat but Maxxis quit making making that tire & I got tired of messing with the seat. That's a fanny pack behind the seat, to carry stuff & cover the seat/fender gap. Funny, but after staring at it in the garage all winter, it looks different on my computer. Grin Now I'm going "Hmmmm....what if?" all over again. I dunno. I can't leave stuff alone & just ride. Grin
