Igniter - TCI - CDI ?

In the parts diagrams, the “ignition module” is called an IGNITER.

CDI - Capacitor Discharge Ignition
TCI - Transistor Controlled Ignition

Does the LS650 have a TCI Igniter?  For such an important component, there is very limited info on our forum (that I can find).

What is known about this little black box?

Thanks Verslagen.  Does the external appearance say anything about the TCI?  On the backside of the TDI on the parts bike I bought, it has “pimples” (best way to describe the bumps).

I don't believe so, I think most have them or it's possible some mfg's fill the backside completely.

This is what's known as conformal coating.  It's there to prevent any of the components from vibrating and eventually breaking off.

Thanks Verslagen.  I went on eBay and looked at some used ones.  They all have pimples in their conformal coating (I learned what it’s called just now, thanks!).

The CDIs on Chinese pit bikes always have nice smooth conformal coating.  That’s why I asked.  Those things are stupid cheap (like $15).  Our TCIs must have gold and platinum inside (over $600 new).  It’s not like our bikes have a big brain!

What typically burns out on ours is the power transducer that controls the coil.

If you leave the ignition on overnite and you have a great battery, it'll probably be burned out in the morning.

So maybe that's why?
