Dave, if ya'll start planning a trip to Deal's Gap let me know. I'd love to make it if at all possible. Now that I have a little pick'em up I can load the S40 in the bed and not worry about doing an 800+ miles ride on two wheels. Definitely the S40, I don't even want to think about trying to load up the Honda (too heavy, and actually probably does not fit on the Maverick as probably too long also).

That restaurant that MM is describing is definitely Cooper's BBQ in Llano. It surely is one of my favorites also.

I bet that is one of those towns whose name I cannot pronounce correctly.

Ya'll talk funny down there! Wink

Dave, just replace the double L with a Y and that is how you pronounce it.

I have learned a bit about speaking Spanish from my Puerto Rican room mate in college, and I was a bit confident in the LL to Y sound  - but Medina, Boerne and Leakey tripped me up last time I was there.

The Medina we have in Ohio is pronounced "Medinah"......not "Medeenah" like you have in Texas.

Hey, I've been here for a very long time now. All the Spanish, no problem. But the German and the Czech, that's different.

Just don't call Bexar County, "Beks-er".

Its Bear.  Or Bare.  But not Beks-er.

Are these "tricks" so you can tell who is not a native Texan?

It is definitely a clue!  My wife is a proud native Texan and still has to correct me from time to time.

Apparently it’s ok to say Llano as La-no and not Ya-no.  So it can’t be confused with “ya know”.  That would be too confusing, ya know.

In Kentucky we have Louiseville (Looval).

And in Tennessee they have Maryville (Mervil).

Huh

Happy new rear tire day!

My back tire had some life left in it - but I was pretty sure it wasn't ready for 9 days of riding double in Texas.

We are about a month away from when we will all be headed to Texas.  Time to get the cables lubed, the hand and foot lever pivot points cleaned and lubed, tires replaced, chains lubed (if you have them), oil and filter chqnged, air filters cleaned, etc.
Huh  (How old is that battery?).

It was about 50 degrees when I changed the tire yesterday, and what a fight it gave me!  The wide sport touring tires are really stiff, and I believe the cold tire made it much worse.

So then cold tires need a nice hot bubble bath before they can stretch all out for you ?
Makes sense.

Coincidentally I asked about tires the other day.  What tire did you go with?

Like Lancer said - we bake ours in the sun in Texas until they feel like roasted marshmallows.
