2024 Rides
11/07/23 at 18:20:26

Is it too early to start talking about rides for the next year?

Deb and I are going to try to head to the Texas Hill Country again in 2024.  We are planning a slower trip to and from the area, we are both retired and going to try and take advantage of all that time off!

Last year we had planned on being there the 1st week in May for a couple of reasons:  1) We wanted to see the bat colonies near Kerrville and in Austin, and they don't show up until May. 2) The little cottage we rented was not available until the 1st week in May.

The daytime temperatures appear to be flirting at 90 in May.....and looking at the 2021-2022 history there are some weeks in May that it goes over 90 towards 100 for several days in a row!   Perhaps the bats are not worth us all baking on rides all week.....perhaps April would be better.

We are planning on driving the RV this year....it appears all the RV spots at the Schreiner park where you guys got a cabin are booked already.  We will have to find somewhere else to stay......we need to start planning soon.

Is anyone interested in going to Texas in April 2024?

I changed the search criteria, and there are some RV spots available.

Can we agree on the dates in April?

I'd love to take a ride in the spring over to Kerrville .   I don't want to be a limiting factor with my 55 to 65 mph cruising speeds . That's where my Savage was comfily too - so it might be just fine.   The little Meteor can cruise at 70mph if it needs too , but its slow about getting there and its back to 65 if a steep hill shows up.

How-ever ...

I'm planning to put the performance cam in with the spring oil change/valve check ... that might be a game changing modification .   I've never did a cam increase thing before.

Hay Lancer , should I expect much of an improvement , advertised at (20% increase).  Already done the DNA air intake and free flowing exaust.

If ya'll can put up with me and it works out for me to get away for a 10 day streak , then I'd be ridding solo and staying in the cabin.

Sounds good to me MM. Even with the smaller bike you'll probably be waiting at the turns for me. Grin

Hay Springman , It handles/feels just like a Savage does.   Same sitting position , same foot position , same weight , same rake , with a stiffer frame  Wink

My availability is determined by my ability to avail on any given day.  Retired from a paying job so no worries with work.  Honey Dew Enterprises has a flexible work schedule.  I only need to work when I am flexible.. with a minimum of creaking..

Neal, Wow, I forgot you are retired now. Cool.

I sent Steve a text. His reply "Count me in."

Looks like the early part of April may be the best for those that do not like riding in the heat.

Just wanted to ask you guys, I have another brother-in-law that just recently got back into riding (he got a Victory I think). And just recently another brother-in-law (with my sister) just moved down here to Houston. He used to ride an HD. I don't know if he intends to get a bike down here. Is it OK if I ask them if they would like to join us? I will wait to hear from ya'll before I say anything to them. Thanks.

I'm ok with it.
if everyone comes, we'll need 2 cabins or we can go for the ranchhouse (sleeps 8) up the road.
that's $200/nite vs. $72x2 but includes bathrooms and kitchen.

Here is the log of the average temperatures in April.  There really is only 4-5 degrees of difference.  However - I do believe these historical averages are a bit cooler than the temperatures that the current climate change are providing.
