Any Bluegrass Fans ?

In one week, we lost 2 of the best mandolin pickers, Jesse McReynolds and Bobby Osborne.
The older I get, the more heroes I lose.
Rats! Sad

Cheers!  Cool

Aw man. Sorry to hear it.
As for "any bluegrass fans", my Dad's a big bluegrass man. He was born in a small town in NC. The Navy brought him to San Diego where he was the president of the San Diego Bluegrass club. He was the front man in Pacific...ly Bluegrass for years and he was a bluegrass music festival promoter. The band changed to Lighthouse later and was primarily bluegrass gospel music, and others took over the lead vocals as my dad's voice declined.

I was lucky to tag along to a lot of festivals and watch the crowd cheer my dad and his band. I filled in on bass a few times and also played the fiddle and mandolin, but never very good. I got to meet some pretty famous bluegrass folks, again thanks to my dad. The biggest name being Bill Monroe, who stayed at my dad's house a couple times.

Bobby and Jesse will be missed by the community!

I guess I would be considered a fan.

We don't go to a lot of festivals - but we go see local bands and I listen to a local Bluegrass Radio Station - WOBO if you want to listen to it online:  https://www.wobofm.com/

I also was the Chairman of the Music Committee for the Cincinnati Appalachian Festival for a dozen years and got to see a lot of music in the process.

I play clawhammer banjo....my wife plays guitar and was in two Old Time music bands (pre-bluegrass stuff like Carter Family, Loovin Brothers.

We have been fortunate to see a number of great artists before their passing.  Doc Watson, Hazel Dickens, George Shuffler, John Hartford, Tony Rice.

One person that was not so famous that I didn't get to see in person was Dawn Sears.....what an incredible voice!

In the early '70s, I was sent to a training seminar in Nashville for 5 days. Casually asked if there was a 'bluegrass bar' in town and was directed to The Station Inn, 402 12th ave S. Time I should have been doing homework, was spent there listening to the best.
Later, when I was transferred from Toronto to Louisville, visits became common. One night at the Station, Bill Monroe waltzed in and jumped on stage and joined the band for 2 numbers. As he was walking out, I jumped at the opportunity and shook the hand of Bill Monroe. Over the moon! Happened again at Bean Blossom. I are a lucky guy !
Cheers!  Cool

Wow. Just found a copy of one of my dad's albums on ebay.

My dad is Rick Kirby, featured here.

Sorry if it's a hijack. I'm just super proud of the guy.
