I got grommets and a setting tool. From hobby lobby.
Cut the strap between the bags,folded it to double it. Used parachute cord to lace them up. Holes drilled in the back,cord to the brackets.  They didn't flop around and hung right where I wanted and didn't get in the way of the rectumfrier.

Gotta seal the holes in the back. Unless you like water in your bags.

Here's a photo of my throw over Willie & Max saddlebags.  It would look a lot better without that big "X" in the middle but then it would be a lot harder to adjust the height of the bags.

It's plenty attractive. You did good.
