Will the more flat later era seats fit on an 86 bike? Mine is ragged as hell, and I don't really like the "U" shape of the old seat that prevents me from sitting back further on the bike.

How handy are you? You can span the dip between the tank and the horns above the wheel with angle iron bolted in or welded. At that point measure for any flat seat from e-bay. Easypeasy !

ps: you might need an in-seam 29"+ !
