Removing tank emblem
05/14/21 at 21:02:04

So I would like to remove the emblem from the tank of my "2011" ride but not damage the paint. Any help with how to do this would be apprciated. It appears glued on at center, can lift the edges so bond is not a complete adhesion. Does it require some heat or solvent, or just a rip and hope it releases. I have the orange/black paint and want to keep it if possible.

Start with an empty tank so the gas will not absorb the heat. Be careful with the heat gun. Just enough heat to soften the adhesive, but not damage the paint. Goo-Be-Gone to remove any remaining adhesive.

You can try nylon line under the edges and gently "saw" the adhesive away.

Dental floss can be used as well.

Trying to get the labels off my now sold GS500 I saw all the recommendations above, heat, solvents and so on but what actually cleaned all the glue off really really easily... wait for it, it's too obvious...

Petrol. And it obviously won't damage your tank because a tank must be petrol safe otherwise any spill at a gas station would ruin your paint job.

I used fishing line to remove the emblem, then this for the adhesive:

I've found several other uses around the house like shoe scuffs and tire marks from the kids' hoverboard (smh).

A shop without dental floss is not properly equipped.

Replacing the screen protector on a cell phone?

Ohh,yeah..

Yes! Dental floss.  Works perfectly and I didn't have any residue to remove afterwards.
