Exhaust heat wrap,removing rust,polishing question

I removed exhaust heat wrap because color was fading. I used wrap because looks cool. After remove I find out exhaust pipe is rusting out and color changed to dark blue. Does heat wrap could damage engine by overheating? That's why pipe changed color? If I could damage I am thinking about going back to no wrap pipe but now pipe is not shine anymore I am thinking about repolishing pipe. Does Mothers polishing compound really works good? It has a good review from many of youtuber.

Also I found out under the front fender has a lots of rust. What kind of rust remove product you guys use with out damage paint? Let me know please. Thank you in advance.

Mr. Verslagen,

Thanks for pionting out what should be obvious. People have an aversion to anything not shiny, our rides have a personality all their own which dictates issues and solutions, or not, of their own. Some blue may be what we live with. Maybe going to a blacked out exhaust is a better solution. I am trying that route on my '03' going forward. I have a black head on mine so my thoughts are it should work.

Not the mention the hottest part on the bike is the exhaust valve, So one way it gets its cooling is a path through the pipe.

So putting a ex wrap on
maybe like throwing on a heavy winter coat and going for a jog on a 90+ degree day.

Real fine steel wool will remove gunk from the pipe, But as Norm92 mentioned rust is rust.

More to the point rust is some oxygen atoms added to the iron. If you remove the oxygen atoms you get back to the iron. Not sure how practical that would be on a header pipe.

I'd treat the rust and rewrap the pipe with some quality wrap this time. If you're worried about rust under the wrap, this can only happen if you leave water on it. If you come back from a rainy ride, just let the bike idle for 5 minutes under cover till the wrap is dry, instead of turning the engine off immediately.

Choice of silver or black, color never changes, $60.00 ! Cheers!
