According to a report on zdnet.com Linus Torvalds is no longer worried about Microsoft attempting to control Linux. He has dismissed all the anti-Microsoft stuff. He made these statements at the 2019 Linux Plumbers Conference.

Here is my gist of the whole thing.   Oracle tried to take over Linux a long time ago, through buying Sun and several other dead companies and playing a lot of muscle games with the major pieces of the various distros (like Star Office and Open Office).

Linux and Open Source shifted slightly so those plays no longer could work against Linux.

Microsoft under Balmer was a stone diametrically opposed enemy of Linux, so Linux shifted slightly to make the kernel impossible to be influenced by Balmer's boy's destructive activities.   Ditto again for Google attempts to influence things.   Ditto for Amazon, Intel, Chinese Gov, German Gov. ---- there have been a bunch of folks attempt to "take over the Linux world" ...... you name them, they ALL use Linux now and they all can modify their own flavor of Linux to attempt to take over the world all they want to.

They can't control the kernel, it has too many layers of review built into it.   They can influence it, yes, simply write some good code that really is REALLY better stuff and act like a good participant and you can rewrite large chunks of Linux as long as what you write is better than what is there now.

Is Microsoft 'slowly becoming Linux based' ...... yep, this is true.     Linux is better stuff than the old MS core systems and by replacing their old core systems with Linux chunks MS is actually becoming better software.

MS Windows is still buggy shite that can't make a Fall upgrade that doesn't tank 3 times on them, but that is simply how Windows rolls ----- Windows has always has been that way.
