While the balance of benefit and cost may be debated, the lack of coordination of this retreat has been catastrophic, and completely unnecessary- a staged withdrawal allowing allies to reposition is the very least we should have done.
It's SMART to destroy the base.That’s not the issue- rather, the method and cause. Perhaps you've noticed military civil engineers don't regularly employ bombers for demolition. Flight crews and bombers are expensive- this retreat wasn't planned with our troops, at all.

I can't really make this any more clear for you: the most significant asset we blew up in Syria was the trust of allies- present and prospective. You shouldn't be struggling to wrap your head around that.
