I don't believe the later types will work the rotors( The magnet for the pickup coil that tells the sparkplug to fire) are in different places on the older and newer bikes , you really should buy one that matches/or closely matches the year of your bike . the change over seems to have happened between 1995 and 1996

Also, you need to get another rotor to go with the newer TCI (transistor controlled ignition). There are a couple of posts in the tech section.
