Clutch sticking?
07/24/19 at 14:13:42

Hopefully this thread stays short as I have my build thread for most of my questions.

Got the bike all put together. When in neutral it rolls just fine. With the clutch pulled in in 1st it feels like its not fully engaged. Ie rolling back and forth theres a hitch. The back tire will still roll but it feels like theres still tension on the clutchpack.

Have I just not been on a bike in that long or is my clutchpack not getting compressed? Note: the clutch is stiff, almost no free play in the lever.

So your clutch is dragging.
If you start it, does it pull you forward when in gear?
When not running, there's no oil on the clutch so it can stick after sitting all night.

If it's pulling forward on you, turn it off and check the clutch arm position on the case.  pull it up with your hand and check the marks behind it on the case.  There's a high and a low mark.  if the lever center is above the high mark, it's time for a new throwout rod.

Clutch pulled in. I guess this is high?

Literally just started raining so testing will have to wait till tomorrow. I think this might tell us enough though.

Clutch released

If this fully released and hanging free, then there's your problem.
If you're just pulling up the lever to remove any slack, then it's good.
Although it doesn't give you much to play with.

That first one is with the lever untouched. Should I adjust it so it sits lower?

So the problem is no oil, sticky clutch.
Yes it will drag, when you get a chance, run it for awhile and try it again.

Note: running while leaning over on the sidestand will stave the highside cam rocker arms of oil and it not recommended.

No worries about running it on the side. It'd be a bit loud and toxic in here 😐 I'll post over on my build thread when I get a chance to do the shakedown.
