High pitch noise from exhust
06/23/19 at 08:44:02

So today I did a short trip (10 miles maybe) and I noticed a high pitch noise coming out of the exhaust. When I got home I did some exploration and while the engine is running, if I lightly lightly restrict the exhaust coming out of the end of the pipe the noise stops, but starts again if I move my stick (what I was using to poke. Has anyone had this issue?

At first I thought Sh*t the cam-chain tensioner (bikes not even at 4k), but the noise is pin-pointable to the end of the exhaust pipe. I have noticed more backfires as of late, but nothing terrible.

You should look for an air leak in your exhaust system, either at header clamp and gasket at the cylinder head or the joint at the header/muffler . any place outside air can enter the exhaust will cause increased backfiring, and the hot header pipe can ignite unburned fuel ,made easier if you have a leak as it supplies added oxygen

The stock muffler can sound very much like a VW with that high pitched whistle sound. Mine did.

So I went thru and checked all the bolts everything looks good there. Might there be a back pressure problem if something broke inside the muffler?

I would suspect that only if the bike seems to run differently .

It's probably nothing. Too few miles for the muffler to die internally.
They really do whistle some.
The really good answer is
Ditch the Chrome Trash Can
Slap a Dyna muffler on it.

The dyna muff is not too bad, but it's not as quiet as the stock.
If you don't wail on it, it won't be loud.

Check eBay or a local HD dealer for Dyna muffler take-offs.  There are plenty available that were removed from new bikes to install aftermarket pipes, and they are cheap.
