Sounds like you would benefit from some "personal supervision" by a knowledgeable owner of this same bike. The things needing attention are pretty simple actually, but the removing of the head cover for the first time is something that should be seen along with the item by item instructions.

looked into the cam chain tensioner, I don't have any issues that would indicate that being the issue i.e. grindy clanky noise.
How far is it extended?
how would i tell?
Measure the distance between the body and the end of the tube.
The mileage is high enough to be dangerous if nobody has done anything to it.
If it spits its guts, it's usually the end of the motor.

Great news! just contacted the previous owner and they said cam chain was modded so it wont fail and that the petcock was replaced. TWO less things to worry about!

and they said cam chain was modded so
Must be a forum member.
And yeah, that is good news.
There are a couple of ways to modify the tensioner.
One actually has a pin that stops the guts from falling out. The other just makes it take longer,
I'd ask them for details.
I if it's just a tab welded on, you're good for a while.
I'd be asking the smart guys here..

It's like 15 minutes to pull the side cover and look.
I don't ever trust what a previous owner says...

They do, but unless they are rusted or seized 15 minutes is all it takes.
It's really easy stuff
