No thanks, I'll just slap that clutch lever.  Those few seconds I gain from that stoplight will just get me to the next one a few seconds earlier. Wink

I have ridden bikes that shift smoothly without the clutch - but my Savage is not one of those bikes.  I don't know if it is the large amount of flywheel/crankshaft/counter balancer mass, or the large amount of compression braking the big single has - but the up/down shifts are much smoother with the clutch.

The BMW R1200RT I rented has a "shift assist" that does something to the engine when you move the shift lever - it worked incredibly well...the clutchless shifts were really smooooooth.

Very interesting, sadly some on this forum say our gearbox is a washing machine one, with 40000 miles up soon, I'm not that brave.

At a hefty clip, 1st to 2nd rpm change is about 1500 difference.
So is 2nd to 3rd, but 3rd to 4th is 1000 and 5th is 600.
You almost don't need to blip the throttle.

It's not so cool first to second, and second to first, no, but IF I'm ripping it, the others are slick.
If I'm not, then the timing is hard and getting it wrong is easy. So the clutch is the answer then.
