Can the head be removed while the engine is in the bike ? i have gotten the valve cover off and i almost got the head accept the longest bolt wont let me get it off. can anybody walk me through how to do it? I have seen pics on the forum before of it removed while still on the bike i think.

aint easy, and you have to put back what you took out.
so might as well take the engine out to start with.

This last go around I started tearing the motor down in the frame hoping the problem was up top... Just getting the valve cover off was a big enough PITA without scratching or dinging any critical surfaces... I would never attempt a head removal in the frame. It is too darn easy to pull the engine to risk damage trying to contort, flex, wiggle, ting, tang, and bing bang the head around trying to clear the studs.

The longest way round may be the shortest way there.

I learned that many years ago working on mechanical devices. :'(

Can it be done by removing the front mounting bolts and there by lowering the bottom of the motor in between the frame rails and tilting the head slightly forward?( not sure) but they would have to be removed to pull the motor anyway, and some frames may have different tolerances .You could try that first.

If you're pulling the head, yes, it's possible in the frame.
And you'll be working down low
For a long time
Pull it
Get it on a bench
